This is going to be my first PC build and my budget is £650, here are the parts:

Anything to improve/change? What FPS can I get on TF2/Crysis/FarCry with this build? Ignore the other stuff.
This is my first attempt at PC building and hope it's my last :P
Edit: I threw in £50.06 more to the budget. :)
What resolution are you gaming at? Anything over 1280x1024 and you should be getting the 1GB version of the 4870.
I'm partial to AMD (not fanboy..just preferable..), so compare prices to a Phenom II 950. (3.0 x4).

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
Samsung HD502HI 500GB Hard Drive SATAII
Asus P5KPL-AM iG31 mATX Motherboard
Casecom Silver 500W ATX Power Supply
Liteon 52x32x52x16 CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
XFX HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 (ATI?)
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz RAM
OBVIOUSLY that isn't everything, I have other stuff which isn't really relevant to this thread. Yeah i'll put 64-bit Vista on it.

Looks like a solid build. The only thing I'd advise is getting the 1GB version of the 4870 as opposed to the 512MB one. It's only a little bit more expensive and well worth the extra money.

If he's got that much to spend, he's best off to intel. I'm not a fanboy, it's just that Intel quads spank the Phenom.
Yeah yeah, we know >.>
If he saves money on the processor (the phenom is still a great one), he can get a 4890.

1280x1024 :v:
Oh. Well in that case, if you're looking to play Crysis, save money on the processor by getting a Phenom II 940, and with that saved money buy a 4890.
I've heard the 950 is a good overclocker.
A- It's expensive in the cooling department to overclock.
B- He's gaming. He doesn't need overclock.

I just bought this and it should be coming to me within the next 30 minutes, I've looked at as many benchmarks as possible and I'd say that the Phenom II X4 945 is Basically AMD's answer to a lower priced q9400/q9550. Where as the 945 is in between the two, and the 955 beats the q9550. I've looked up as many benchmarks as possible and I'd say it's a great deal. I'm putting the extra money towars a GTX 260/275. From the many benchmarks I've looked at, the GTX 260 896 MB also beats the 4870 by enough to be noticeable.

That's actually a reasonable point.
Casecom Silver 500W ATX Power Supply
has no one noticed this
get an OCZ 500W StealthXStream if you want room to breathe and upgrade or 400W ModXStream if you like the ability to remove cables for better management

also GTX 275 over a 4890
Note: The 4890 costs quite a bit more than the 1GB 4870 yet only gives a 4-5fps boost. Not worth it in my opinion
Changed the 4870/90 for a GTX 275 :)
Sounded like a good idea.

I hope you mean 1680x1050. A 4870 512mb would be fine up until 1680x1050.

A-Not really.
B-Nonsense it's extra boost for your cash.
Also keep the 4870 it is fine the 4890 is a waste of cash. Also buy a corsair, pc power and cooling, thermaltake, ocz psu instead of that suicidal one.
EDIT: Actually just swap out the psu and the build in the OP is fine.

Yeah I was a bit wary about it :v:
Anyway, changed the PSU to a CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 460W PSU, seeing it was in a bundle with a case.

Added finalised list to OP, Any thing else to add before I hit buy?
Don't get that CPU cooler. Pretty much anything from ASUS on the cooler front is all mouth and no trousers. I'd suggest either a Xigmatek or Sunbeam Core Contact cooler. They're generally cheaper and much better at cooling.

Ok, Thanks :D
