But one facet that has remained since the beginning of the franchise is Mr. Bond’s signature drink: a vodka martini, “shaken, not stirred.” But for the 23rd installment, Skyfall, Bond will sip on a less potent potable. He’ll be drinking a Heineken. Thanks to a product placement deal with the Dutch brewer, at least one scene in the new film will see Daniel Craig requesting a Heineken from behind the bar. The brand, according to AdAge, has had a partnership with the film for 15 years, but this is the beermaker’s most major attempt to capitalize on the Bond name. While it’s unlikely that he’ll keep returning to the bar for Heineken after Heineken, the mere fact that Bond is ordering a beer should turn heads. For the Bond franchise, it’s a marked change of plot. The company will pair the movie name-drop with an international ad campaign also starring Craig. The ad boom is a strong-armed attempt for the Amsterdam-based brewer to keep up with the king of import beers, Corona, which prides itself on its collegiate beachfront advertisements. Taking the suave route, though, Heineken will play off the professionalism and sophistication of James Bond to craft an image of their beer. He is the “epitome of the man of the world,” Heineken’s chief marketing officer Leysa Lysyj told AdAge in announcing the partnership. Skyfall’s director, Sam Mendes, will serve as a creative consultant for the ad campaign, so we should most certainly expect a theatrical feel to the ads. Despite Heineken’s optimism, some fans can’t seem to calmly drink in the change. Yahoo notes that many loyal Bond watchers are up in arms that Heineken could force such a major script change. The backlash was just as strong when Bond switched his classic Aston Martin for a BMW in Goldeneye. Though his bar tab will hardly affect the movie’s plot – unless he drinks one too many, gains a beer belly, and can no longer outpace the bad guys. Above all, let’s just hope he doesn’t fall into old habits and ask for this drink shaken. I mean, come ON!
They've already done all the books. Now they're just making things up.
Who honestly cares, really? The only question should if Skyfall is good or not, that's all that matters! He can drink as much Heineken as he wants frankly. It's not as if that the scene where he drinks a martini, there's a standing ovation because it came into shot. No one got this pissy when Q wasn't in Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace, why would you care now? Sorry if the writers are trying to give James Bond more character than just a martini and a tuxedo!
-snip-
Vodka Martini is a fucking iconic part of Bond......you can't just change shit like that fucking retarded product placements, why can't he just drive his aston martin through a Heineken billboard or some shit?
Because money
Vodka Martini is a fucking iconic part of Bond......you can't just change shit like that fucking retarded product placements, why can't he just drive his aston martin through a Heineken billboard or some shit?
They could have pulled the thing they did in Goldeneye where he slams a tank through a Perrier truck.
I thought that the whole 007 franchise went under?
So in spite of all of this, would it still be worth it to watch all the Bond movies from the ground-up?
I thought that the whole 007 franchise went under?
MGM went bankrupt and couldn't afford to make it for years. Got bought out last year and production finally went ahead
well, they've already ruined it anyway
I thought that the whole 007 franchise went under?
Apparently not.
So in spite of all of this, would it still be worth it to watch all the Bond movies from the ground-up?
You mean starting from the old ones and working to the new? If so, then definitely. They're classics.
Honestly, I have yet to enjoy any of the newest Bond movies as much as I have with the older classics. This is just beating a dead horse further, and is quite an shame and something the Bond series do not deserve.
No one said he won't drink anything else so I fail to see whats the fuss about.

Casino Royale was alright as an action movie, but felt much more like a Bourne movie than a Bond film. And Quantum of Solace was a pile of trash. I don't have any high hopes for Skyfall.
No one said he won't drink anything else so I fail to see whats the fuss about.
The martini line is in every Bond movie, so it's kind of tradition that he drinks it. I dunno, maybe they feel like people are just waiting for that line every time so they want to take it out.
If you change your iconic drink, don't change it to Heineken, there are loads of better beers.
OMG! He changed drink???? Movie ruined!
I wish they'd hurry up and get a new actor to play James Bond. Daniel Craig isn't a bad Bond, I'm just tired of seeing him in Bond's character. I miss Pierce. :(
I'd love to see Clive Owen, he seems like he would have been a much more logical choice than Craig
And of all beers they chose fucking Heineken? [editline]7th April 2012[/editline] I mean, I get the issue, but if you have to fuck it up at least do it with a good beer
fucking marketing and shit fuck hngg
OMG! He changed drink???? Movie ruined!
Oh come on, it is the same as putting Batman into a rat costume.
The Craig bond films bore me to hell and back.
why does everyone care so much
Oh come on, it is the same as putting Batman into a rat costume.
Except he isn't called "James Martini", is he?
The Craig bond films bore me to hell and back.
Yeah, cos Octopussy, Moonraker and Die Another Day were the epitome of the James Bond series.
Next he'll be smoking OG Kush
why does everyone care so much
Because it is pretty much one of the few traits that has been kept through every single iteration of Bond. It is like making him wear a tracksuit instead of a classy formal suit. That and Heineken is an absolutely shit beer.
