• RPG Maker VX Ace, is it worth getting?

I'm quite interested in it but I'm wondering if it's worth getting. It's $23 right now on sale (as opposed to it's $70 price tag), so I'm really thinking about getting it. Has anyone used it, or a previous version of RPG Maker? I remember using a very very old RPG Maker way back in the day when I was younger, but I don't really remember anything about it except I had no idea what I was doing.

Never
DON'T buy It... JUST DON'T.
If it is anything like the one I used to mess around with it isn't worth paying for.
If you absolutely must get a game creation program I would try Gamemaker. The free version is kinda limited but the premium version is a helluva lot more versatile than any RPG maker. If you put a lot of time and effort into it you can make something pretty cool with it. Hotline Miami was made in gamemaker, and it hides that fact pretty well unless it crashes in which it gives you a gamemaker error :v:
oh geeze Well I'm glad I asked before laying some money down on it :v:
i'm honestly curious how many of the people that said no have ever tried it
no

It's fun to play around with.
no
If you absolutely want to get into game creation without bothering learning the really low level stuff, I'd recommend Unity Free for 3D games and Gamemaker for 2D games, although you can also make 2D games in Unity with a bit of extra work (or buying the 2D Toolkit plugin) Regarding the RPG Maker VX question: No
If it was a dollar, yes
I found it will take a very big amount of willpower to actually finish a game with RPG Maker, if youn want to make a good one that is. But maybe it's just me. That said I had no other problems with it, but I still wouldn't pay money for it.

Game Maker 7 Lite has everything you could possibly need to make an RPG, and it's free. I would know, I'm making one right now. Now, let's say you finish it - all you have to do is buy the pro version if you reeeeally want to try selling it on Steam. Otherwise, you can just make it an .exe files for your friends to play (the only stipulation is that the Game Maker logo will show up whenever you boot it if you made the .exe with the Lite version.)
i'm honestly curious how many of the people that said no have ever tried it
I have and I'd still say no, it's not worth it.
I'd say go for it, it's fun to mess around with
I bet most of the people saying no have never even used the program. I've used RPG Maker VX quite a bit and it's a nice program. If you want to make FF1-6 style RPGs quickly it's an easy program to use and it has what looks like a fairly robust language for you to program your own shit. Game Maker is probably a more robust tool, but for RPGs RPG Maker is faster because the framework is already set up. You can make some pretty good games with it such as Yume Niki, Vacant Sky or Tales of a Drunken Paladin. But $20 should be the base price, not the discounted price. I suggect you give RPGMaker VX Ace Lite a go, it's a stripped down version that's free and has no time limit. If you like it you can decide if the full version might be worth $20.

And (apparently) if you're really good you can make a FF7 quality game. (If you can actually do this you shouldn't be using RPG Maker unless you're making HUGE changes to its scripts.)

Maybe if it was %75 off. But not at 66
