• Don't Disconnect Us - Sign this petition for the greater good of the UK!

Facepunch members from the UK, Lord Mandelson is trying to put forward proposals of throttling and even disconnecting broadband connections due to filesharing. His approach effectively allows rightholders to act as judge and jury, it is not for rightsholders to make decisions about whether someone is guilty or not of infringing copyright. Nor is it for them to decide on sanctions as a punishment for suspected illegal acts. Only a court can make these judgements and hand down sanctions. It may also effectively kill news aggregrate which is something none of us should look forward to, the future of internet use if his proposals get accepted is very uncertain and sorry for the copy & paste there but http://www.dontdisconnect.us has much better points than I could ever make myself. Here's the official petition put forward by TalkTalk: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/dontdisconnectus/ I know that Facepunch is against filesharing and warez but this will affect internet users everywhere in the UK and the way Mandelson wants it to be done isn't right. Here's also a copy of Lord Mandelson's proposals in full: http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file52658.pdf I'm just spreading the word, and I hope people have things to say about this and will sign the petition to shoot down the proposals.

I signed the petition the first time this thread was posted. Fun tip, did you know you can brightdance to support this campaign. http://xfactor.talktalk.co.uk
But what if I do illegally download?

http://xfactor.talktalk.co.uk
:P Sorry if I reposted something, my friend gave me the idea to post it on Facepunch and I didn't think it would've been posted already. And FINLEY, if you do illegally download, this concerns you a lot more than those Facepunch angels who don't.
You didn't even search? :geno:
I'd sign the petition but im not british and it wont let me
You didn't even search? :geno:
I figured if my friend told me to post it on Facepunch he would've already checked no one else had.
Why do all these government officials always assume every IP is static? I can't wait to see how many innocents get labeled as file sharers.
Government officials don't see that they'll never really be able to stomp out filesharing, they mainly do it to keep the companies happy but like Dmarine said about innocents being labeled as filesharers is true, another flaw of the proposals.
The greater good
what a wild goose chase
God save the Queen!
What greatly thought out satire there, well done good sir.
Petitions never work.
Petitions never work.
Nor will this, it's been tried before and failed.
Petitions don't do shit. Sorry broski...
Also, if you guys had any sense and actually checked, it's an official petition and could possibly change somthing.
Petitions don't do shit. Sorry broski...
I pretty much came in here to say that. An Internet petition won't do jack.
Yeah, a petition that the prime minister will be reading can't possibly do anything.
I do suppose if we are disconnected there will be riot

I made the first thread on this, i feel proud now. Fucking "Lord Mandlecunt" wasn't even elected to his post and was only made a lord so he could do his job.
I guess it is an important-enough subject to warrent a second thread, it's what Gay-Lord Mandelson would've wanted, fairness.
