A rapidly growing industry in China—dairy farming—is also a major new source of greenhouse-gas emissions. But Huishan Dairy in northeast China is trying to change this by installing the world's largest system for generating electricity by collecting methane gas emitted by fermenting cow manure. The Chinese have not, historically, been big milk drinkers, but decreasing costs and aggressive marketing efforts have changed that. Huishan's new system will prevent methane—which is 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas—from reaching the atmosphere. It will also reduce waste and odors, and produce a valuable organic fertilizer that's safer than raw manure. In a country as big as China, they could probably power their shit with.. their own shit.
So how much will china buy my poop for?
My father works at a sewage plant, and his plant does this already. Still, its interesting to see it done on a massive scale such as China. With the budget, my father's plant is only able to use some of the waste to generate only a little bit of power for the plant itself.
It's good to see people using stuff nobody wants to make stuff everybody wants.
Too bad it's not cow dong
It's good to see people using stuff nobody wants to make stuff everybody wants.
A lot of sewage plants in rural areas across the US actually use the cleaned waste for use in adjacent farmland.
reminds me of that lamp powered by dogshit
Neat!
So in the future I can imagine every house having its own generator powered by your shit. All you have to do is have a special outhouse installed in your backyard to shit in to power it!
