While Sony's "Welcome Back" package smoothed over most people's concerns following the PlayStation network attacks in April and May, not everyone is won over. Some are taking Sony to court. And when I say some, I mean many.
The PS3 manufacturer is currently battling a total of 55 class action lawsuits as a result of the PSN security breach, which exposed the personal details of tens of millions of customers.
While many of those are simply from disgruntled individual owners (or groups of owners), there is an additional suit from a major insurance company, Zurich American, which is telling courts it shouldn't have to pay Sony to help it cover the costs of said suits.
It reckons Sony's insurance with the company only covers it against physical damage and injury to its employees, not the kind of cyberattack which was responsible fro the PlayStation Network being brought down for weeks.
This could be a big deal for Sony, which says the total cost of the attacks could run to almost $200 million.
55 Class action lawsuits holy shit
called it
And the majority of the money will go to law firms. Not the actual plaintiffs.
Taste of their own medicine.

if it helps sony learn from their mistakes...
Wow so even Sony's business partners are turning on them. I just hope those hackers realize a lot of low level people in the company may have their jobs at risk. Possibly if Sony starts cutting cost when the law suits get cumbersome. Although the CEO's bank accounts aren't going to have a scratch on them after all of this shit. Fucking idiotic internet goons.

And Sony should've gotten off this scot-free??
Exec's putting the blame on lower employees is normal with the current business laws, like it or not.
They knew that if the personal details of customers were leaked they'd get sued, so they shouldn't have been slacking on security in the first place.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
i wonder what will haappen to the ps vita now
because it looks promising

Free to all people who got their info leaked.
Karma is a wretched woman!

It would've been better for the individual plantiffs to do this. If even one class action lawsuit is overturned it creates a precedent to overturn the others and that means Sony gets away scott free.
If I was the head of Sony, oh my god... I would be security anal every week, like you have no idea.
I half hope Sony dies and new companies take their place, and half hope that the PS dies and their other things are OK.
Or Sony dies so they start selling off everything they made for 50$ a pop. :v:

Yeah, like this was a hard one to predict.
