[release]Guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Poland's greatest extreme-metal export BEHEMOTH has confirmed that he is suffering from life-threatening leukemia. The disease has advanced to the point where chemotherapy on its own is no longer sufficient as a form of treatment and he is now in urgent need of a bone-marrow transplant. (Note: A bone-marrow transplant is when special cells [called stem cells] that are normally found in the bone marrow are taken out, filtered, and given back either to the same person or to another person.) In light of this, Darski wants to remind everyone about the need to be on the marrow registry. The more people get tested and donate, the more of a chance for life there is for him and people in the same situation.
Every year, more than 10,000 people are diagnosed with leukemia or lymphoma, and a bone-marrow transplant from an unrelated person is their best or only hope for survival. There is no data available on how many people die waiting for a match, but only four out of 10 patients receive the needed transplant.
BEHEMOTH and the band's U.S. record label, Metal Blade, would like to thank everyone for their support and well wishes during this difficult time. The best thing we can all do right now is learn about the marrow-donation process, not only help save one of metal's leaders, but to also help save countless others out there struggling with the same disease.
To learn more about how you can register to donate marrow, go to www.marrow.org.
Fans wanting to help out, register for the marrow program, or who have questions on running a marrow drive may contact the organization Music Saves Lives by e-mail at iCare@musicsaveslives.com or by visiting Music Saves Lives online at www.musicsaveslives.org.
Darski's fiancée, 26-year-old Polish pop singer Doda (real name: Dorota Rabczewska), has reportedly already donated her bone marrow but her tissue type is not believed to be a close enough match.
Darski is currently being treated at the hematology division of the Gdansk Medical University Hospital.
As a result of Darski's illness, all of the band's previously announced shows — including those in Russia and the Baltic states in September/October and the U.S. tour with WATAIN in November — have been cancelled.

It'll be ok... he'll make it... :sympathy:
I would make a news pun like [sp]this story gave me cancer[/sp] but I respect those with terminal illnesses.
I spoiler'd the pun for those who don't want to see it.
I feel bad for the guy, but that band looks like a bunch of faggots who think they're cool for wearing makeup and huge pants and posing with birds.

That's not how it works, kiddo
The awesomeness of Behemoth is too much for you to comprehend :v:

None of the metal bands who dress up and wear makeup have the huge egos you think they do. It's for the image, and it fits the themes of their music.

Death metal is just people attacking guitars and vomiting down microphones.

My brother died from leukemia, but you don't see me going around and telling everyone.
No offense, but the only point of your post was to whore attention and ratings.
Fuck. :(
Most depressing news I've heard all week.
Oh satan no! D:
:saddowns: behemoth are one of the best death metal bands out there, if not THE best.

Oh look it's one of those "my music is better than your music" folk.
:rolleye: I wish some day I can be as cool and edgy as you.
How sad, someone has Leukemia.
Was Dio not good enough for you God?
No worries, gods do not die.
Aw man, that sucks. Not a huge fan (yet) but I've heard their songs and saw them in concert once, and I definitely like them. I don't own any albums yet either...
Behemoth is pretty damn good. Be a shame if the frontman died.
I think maybe I should learn some Behemoth songs.

I'm open to all types of music, just not death metal.
Aww man hope he's okay.

So I'm not allowed to say I have a personal knowledge of leukemia on a forum for public discussion simply because you think I care about something as dumb as ratings when it really has no impact on any thread on this site?
Hang in Nergal, I dunno what i would do without you

I thought you were joking so I rated you funny.
Give me my funny back :colbert:
