German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Donald Trump underscored the importance of the NATO alliance and vowed to work more closely together to combat terrorism and militancy, the two leaders said in a joint statement on Saturday. Merkel and Trump spoke by telephone on Saturday about NATO, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, their ties to Russia and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, according to a statement approved by both countries. "The leaders recognized that NATO must be capable of confronting 21st century threats and that our common defense requires appropriate investment in military capabilities to ensure all allies are contributing their fair share to our collective security," Merkel and Trump said in the statement. Trump accepted Merkel's invitation to attend a summit of G20 industrialized countries in Hamburg in July, and said he looked forward to welcoming Merkel to Washington soon. Germany is chairing the G20 group this year. The statement made no mention of Trump's executive order limiting immigration or his moves to cancel free trade deals, issues that have drawn criticism from German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel and other German officials in recent days. Trump also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Francois Hollande, whose office said he warned the U.S. leader about the economic and political consequences of protectionism. The joint German-U.S. statement, by contrast, highlighted areas of common interest and stressed the importance of ties between the United States and Europe's largest economy. The language on NATO came after Trump called the alliance "obsolete", but it highlighted the need for reforms and updates. Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO members such as Germany that do not spend 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on their militaries. Merkel has said Germany will work to increase its defense spending - now at 1.19 percent of GDP - but also warned that it would take time to achieve the goal. Trump has also said Merkel made a "catastrophic mistake" by allowing more than a million refugees, mostly Muslims fleeing war in the Middle East, to come to Germany.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-merkel-call-idUSKBN15C0U2 So much in one week.
So much in one week.
How much of that would you say is good? (I don't mean good as in "Trump is following through with his word", I mean good as in the policies/etc are good) Beyond pulling out from TPP and the lifetime ban on administration officials lobbying foreign governments, I'm not seeing a whole lot of positive contributions.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-merkel-call-idUSKBN15C0U2 So much in one week.
A few "good" things does not remove the numerous bad things.
How much of that would you say is good? (I don't mean good as in "Trump is following through with his word", I mean good as in the policies/etc are good)
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
I don't think it's good that he sent out his press secretary to lie about the size of his inauguration cloud.
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
He's definitely had an effect, doubtful that it's been a good effect.
So much in one week.
Christ has it really only been one week? Feels like forever
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
So what specifically would you sy the good things hes done are?
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
How would you feel if they tried to either impeach trump or use Admendment 25 Article V, because I think the GOP are tired of the Chaos.
So what specifically would you sy the good things hes done are?
The TTP, this, lobbying, the ban/screening, the wall, and Obamacare. I would say pretty much all of it so far. I will let you know when one really is bad since it be easier to do that since it was all in line with what he said he would do.
The TTP, this, lobbying, the ban/screening, the wall, and Obamacare. I would say pretty much all of it so far.
Hi Tudd are you okay with Trump lying to the American people and telling the people that work for him to lie?
Are we still talking about the crowd thing? I already said both sides are stupid on that issue. But honestly Sean Spicer wasn't really that wrong if by audience he mean't total. It was estimated to be the most viewed inauguration if we take into social media/streaming into account. Otherwise having watched Sean Spicer since, I think he is a great press secretary and has been incredibly fair ever since.
Hi Tudd are you okay with Trump lying to the American people and telling the people that work for him to lie?
You mean alternate facts right?
The TTP, this, lobbying, the ban/screening, the wall, and Obamacare. I would say pretty much all of it so far. [editline]28th January 2017[/editline] I be curious to ask where you are finding the majority of the GOP are going to move to remove him.
So you're fine with the administration blocking government agencies from openly reporting on data that the citizens have all payed for?
I be curious to ask where you are finding the majority of the GOP are going to move to remove him.
Tudd I'm asking how likely is the GOP just going to say screw it, tired of the chaos and impeach him.
Are we still talking about the crowd thing? I already said both sides are stupid on that issue. But honestly Sean Spicer wasn't really that wrong if by audience he mean't total. Just checking.
So you're fine with the administration blocking government agencies from openly reporting on data that the citizens have all payed for?
It has happened in the past. Just depends what the result is once it is back up. I have a feeling it is just Trump wanting people to not talk to media while his administration gets settled. [editline]28th January 2017[/editline]
Okay you are okay with Trump lying to the American people then. Just checking.
I would say it was a dumb argument over something really petty. But I am sure if you wanted lying you could have gotten a healthy dose under a Clinton 2017 administration.
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
You're too far down the Rabbit Hole Alice.
The TTP, this, lobbying, the ban/screening, the wall, and Obamacare. I would say pretty much all of it so far. I will let you know when one really is bad since it be easier to do that since it was all in line with what he said he would do.
Do you think it's okay that foreign students/workers are being denied their right to free travel? That they have to decide between staying here to study/work, or go back to their families and not return? Seriously, what does a ban on travel accomplish?
I would say it was a dumb argument over something really petty. But I am sure if you wanted lying you could have gotten a healthy dose under a Clinton 2017 administration.
I don't fucking care about Clinton. Clinton isn't President. I don't even care about the crowd, I just care that Trump thinks it's okay to lie about it. And apparently you do too.
The TTP, this, lobbying, the ban/screening, the wall, and Obamacare.
Except this is just them agreeing on something and not actually doing anything, he only banned presidential lobbying, people with green cards are also getting banned, the wall hasn't made any significant progress yet, and they have no alternatives to obamacare How is any of this, besides the TPP, good
I would say it was a dumb argument over something really petty. But I am sure if you wanted lying you could have gotten a healthy dose under a Clinton 2017 administration.
Hillary isn't relevant anymore; deflecting like that is a bit pointless.
Having the largest and strongest global power projection in the history of the Earth isn't enough for Mr. Trump.
The TPP: I'm glad it's dead. What good it would do is probably better suited somewhere with less scummy bullshit. This: I don't know enough to really comment. Lobbying: Good. The ban: Terribly thought out and hyperbolic in nature. The wall: also terrible and hyperbolic. Obamacare: If the Republicans drop it without a plan they will be burnt alive politically and will deserve it. That's not good unless an actual replacement is given and you know it. So maybe it's three for three. Still, I'm not sure it's a zero-sum game considering how badly some of this can go over.
I would say it was a dumb argument over something really petty. But I am sure if you wanted lying you could have gotten a healthy dose under a Clinton 2017 administration.
Who gives a hot fucking fuck about Clinton. She's not president. Stop deflecting and actually answer a goddamn question in your life. (User was banned for this post ("Calm Down" - rilez))

People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
i'm starting to think you're actually a paid propagandist, no one can have this much tunnel vision on a forum filled with people disproving you at every turn
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
this is like getting diagnosed with cancer and being really happy about how fast it's progressing

Seriously, what does a ban on travel accomplish?
Well yeah, I am pretty fine there is going to be hassle for people who come out of areas with some of the worse crimes/terrorist acts happening in the world. I think Trump will follow up with what he said this being temporary until they implement something new in its place. Btw, I would like to mention this is getting mighty off topic and just becoming a Tudd pow-wow.
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
That's great and all but he hasn't actually really made an impact yet yall dudes are speaking way too soon, you're acting impressed despite not even seeing the impact it's actually had yet. You don't even know if the dude is going to be terrible or great and you're already acting as if he's done more than anyone else. like holy fuck we've already seen china threaten the US. and if you bring up "But clinton" I'm going to suplex you through a 7 story window and then land on you the moment you touch down super-man style. Who cares about Clinton. That insane woman isn't president.
Quite happy overall. People are extremely stunned by the speed he is going at, but this is what we wanted from Trump and just shows how ineffectual Obama's administration really was.
Your spin on recent events is honestly pathetic People are just "stunned" at his speed? Really? Maybe everyone is aware stopping the understaffed VA from hiring staff, de-funding planned parenthood, ruining international relations with china and mexico, attempting to remove federal funding from sanctuary cities, and clearly targeting muslims with a ban on travel from muslim majority countries are horrible things to do. And then you throw shade at Obama, who was never this destructive. This narrative that Trump is "efficient" is a load of bull, he has yet to build as good of a legacy as Obama has as president. Trump would kill to be as popular and respected as Obama is. Even members of Trump's own party don't like him. Your recent takes on what's going on are pretty much delusional. Everything is not going great at all, it's going PRETTY bad.
