• TinyGrab now has ads (Even if you paid) - Pretty much breaks all your current image embeds

http://blog.tinygrab.com/2010/ads-and-grabs
TinyGrab officially launched in July 2009, when it launched it offered a service like no other. A reliable screenshot sharing platform, that was mysteriously ad free. April 2010 and we’re still a reliable screenshot sharing platform. However, due to the changing ways of business and the internet TinyGrab will start implementing ads into its system. We are partnering with Zero Two Studios to provide high quality, non-intrusive and appealing adverts on grab pages. Starting Monday 3rd of May all short TinyGrab links/uploads will display their content in iFrames. There will be a small discreet header, with the TinyGrab logo and a non-intrusive advert in the top right hand corner. We are not shrinking your grabs or altering your image, we are changing the way that it is initially displayed. Images shared with TinyGrab’s long URL will still point directly to your grab as an image and not a web page. Adverts will be displayed on all short TinyGrab URLs, although Premium members will have an option to disable this default and turn ads off. We would like to encourage those who received TinyGrab Premium, for free, from MacHeist to consider leaving the default option of ads enabled, in order to help support TinyGrab. The decision to insert ads onto our platform was not an easy one to make, however we believe that it is crucial to the further development and continued operational service of TinyGrab. The revenue generated from displaying ads on grabs will go straight back into TinyGrab, funding further development and allowing TinyGrab 2.0 to be truly great. If you would like to advertise your brand, or product, on TinyGrab please contact Zero Two Studios by visiting http://zerotwostudios.com/tinygrab. You can get around this by using long URLs by unchecking this in the control panel: Good luck replacing all your existing images though.
Fuck a jesus, this is bullshit. I've been embedding the short URLs everywhere and now they all break. I assumed since i paid i would get good service that would last a long time. What is this world coming to!
That's a bit of a dickish move
I use Imagehost. was TinyGrab originally a good Image host?
Yes it was very much worth the $10 I spent on it.
Hello Gary, On Monday you will be able to log in to http://tinygrab.com/go/login and disable the new holding page. This will make your links work again. Apologies for this unforeseen issues, we're just testing a few things out right now. Best wishes, Chris Leydon TinyGrab Project Manager chris@tinygrab.com
Fair enough. I hope they get enough money through ads to stay afloat!
I was on the phone with Chris earlier (the guy who made TinyGrab) and he said that it's gonna be set in the account page wether ads are enabled or not. [editline]12:28AM[/editline] Oh wait, cosmic already posted this. Btw I help code the TinyGrab usersystem (the web/PHP end)
Oh cool! Make it nicer to see your grabs and easier to delete them!
Wish I could, I do the backends. And I can't really change anything without Leydon okaying it. I'll see what I can do though.
What do we do in the meantime? I have a paid TinyGrab account and use these everywhere thinking they'd be safe...
Awesome, paid account and I got fucked over.
I find Dropbox so good for image hosting, is it just me?
Nope. When DropBox works with SymLinks and shit, I'll be using it for images too.
I find Dropbox so good for image hosting, is it just me?
Dropbox is pretty awesome.
I just use dropbox.
Dropbox is very slow for me, i always know when people use it for images in threads as they are the last to slowly load.

Jing is a pretty good screengrab alternative, seeing as they're partnered with Screencast ( http://www.jingproject.com/ )
Jing is a pretty good screengrab alternative, seeing as they're partnered with Screencast ( http://www.jingproject.com/ )
I've seen it used, it's good but i really prefer the one step uber-simplicity of tinygrab.
I added a nice TinyGrab-esque screengrab function to AnyHub Desktop if anyone wants it. It'll run on Mac and Linux under Mono as well.
Hello, My name is Chris Leydon and I am the founder and project manager of TinyGrab. I actually discovered this little forum posting whilst making a bit of an ego search. I'm sorry to hear that a lot of you are experiencing problems with the new ad platform. When we made the switch we were not aware that a lot of people were actually embedding the images using the short URL code, we'd assumed that you were using the longer URLs instead. As soon as ads switched on in the next few hours, a tool will be activated in your online control panel which will allow you to disable the HTML page and bring back a direct link to the image. Once again I must apologise for this weekend's teething problems. We've certainly been ripping out our hair over it too. I would also like to point out that the user CammyD DOES NOT work for TinyGrab and neither is he a company representative. If anyone wishes to question my authenticity you may email me, chris@tinygrab.com All of the best, Chris Leydon. TinyGrab Project Manager chris@tinygrab.com
Not everyone has a mac.
that's what I meant, that I'm sad for the windows/linux users.

Keeping you guys up to date. We're quickly building a way which will allow embedded images on your site, without you doing a thing and allow us to have ads on the pages. Also looking at ways to speed up. Apologies for any problems. This should all be done in a few hours. All of the best, Chris Leydon. TinyGrab Project Manager chris@tinygrab.com

Either way, I'd gladly do some "yay free image hosting" for you guys, if it wasn't because I suck at coding image validation, or just coding in general.
