Instead of always posting shit I make in a bunch of threads it would probably be best to post it all in one that I can update regularly and not fill up any other thread

I think you're more better with more cartoonish things than realistic things.
anatomy(and faces especially) look a bit wonky.

A good idea to improve quickly is to go café sketching, just go out and sketch whatever you see. People, buildings, trees.

I will do that tomorrow at the local tim horton's, I hope I don't get kicked out for sketching strangers :v:

yeah the female sucks
Take some real time to learn anatomy. It will also improve your cartooning given that cartooning is really exaggeration of body features to give characters appeal

Oh and use harder brushes your paintings look really muddy. More specifically the portraits
it's not very good

I can never figure out where to understand anatomy beyond figure drawing

Thanks for the helpful criticism
Tried a new thing with perspective, don't know if its done right or not

try researching and doing gesture poses, and constructing the human anatomy before you try any in-depth rendering. that'll improve your illustration a lot.

I've been doing gesture poses, but what do you mean by constructing the human anatomy?

anatomy construction; just getting the proportions, the muscles and overall structure right. that last painting you did seems less like a solid form with muscles, bones and skin and more like a sack of meat, mostly because you likely don't have that much knowledge of muscle and the human body.

I've been reading fun with a pencil by loomis, which parts should i focus on the most based on the stuff i posted here?
I've been reading fun with a pencil by loomis, which parts should i focus on the most based on the stuff i posted here?
well i'd say read all of figure drawing for all it's worth, also by loomis, it would be a better start (for human anatomy, not for very general things) than fun with a pencil. though i haven't read figure drawing for all its worth, i've skimmed it and it really goes into depth with the human body; way more than fun with a pencil does.
i'll start with the more advanced one and leave fun with a pencil for later for anatomy
also is this an okay example of shape construction? it's a bit caricatured so i know some things are mis-shaped

yeah you've got the shape construction for caricatured heads down right now, but your work will look so much more appealing once you keep improving your anatomy and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
you'll learn more struggling with something you find difficult than clearing through something you find easy, and improvement always takes a long time to notice. but you can get there!
Daniel, you should stick with improving your black and white drawings rather than spending time trying to colour tbh.
Your proportions, anatomy and line control are a mess and you should really focus on fixing those
For most of 2014 I've been drawing mostly heads and not a lot of anything else, my realistic head paintings suck but my cartoon ones are okay. i'll focus mostly on bodies for this year because i can't even make them look good; cartoon or realistic.

Holy shit I noticed that I always draw people smoking or having a cig in their moulth and I don't even smoke

The most important part to grasp in anatomy is the torso. If you can figure out the torso, the rest will come to you naturally.

I tried but i don't even know how to do shapes

You need to draw what you're actually seeing not what you think you're seeing.
You're trying too hard to follow the techniques rather than understanding how they are used.
In the second image the top of the cuboid representing the torso isn't even visible let alone be as big as what you drew.
Look at the angles and relate how long each body part should be by looking at the landmarks such as the head.
the purpose of the video isn't to just give you new blocks to make your bases look different, please watch through. the point is to understand major forms vs minor, in the case of the torso, the ribs and the hips
[t]http://i.imgur.com/VZec6kK.png[/t]
these pieces of the body don't have much give, and control how much flow the rest of the body is allowed. ("style" withstanding) these will remain the same size/distance from each other, so you can use this knowledge to reproduce forms with consistency.
the connection between the two chunks in the examples of the vid isn't a stick just for connection reference, it's the soft form that shows stretch or squish based on how the two other forms are positioned. For instance, that second drawing:

don't be afraid to trace over reference figure photos like this to really dig these things into your head
I just can't make it look right no matter how many times I try
that's why he said don't be afraid to trace it
You just gotta keep trying, 10 drawings aint gotta do it. Set some goals like ''Ok, my next goal is to study 100 torsos!'' And don't rush them!
I just can't make it look right no matter how many times I try
Just keep trying. I used to be like you and draw what I was thinking, not what I was seeing. Hell, I still do it, I really need to break out of that habit. I think you've got some great potential.
honestly daniel for some people it takes years upon years of practice to hone a skill like drawing the human body
you have some pros as a beginning artist, those being that you're clearly imaginative and you're not afraid to exaggerate features (which in a way can make learning realism easier)
as a beginning tip, besides drawing the body as shapes i suggest:
-drawing from life (photos are 2D, and while that's fine you also need to learn to look at 3d objects for a good grap on their form)
-mark down what you see, see a small shadow created by the skin? put it down. form an eye for small details. (remember to watch the big picture as you draw though)

oh and here's a little trick I use constantly, it just makes things easier for me

let's say we're drawing a portrait
instead of seeing all of the features of the subject, to give myself a good start on the details after having drawn the basic shape of his head, I'd try and just focus on his outline to make sure everything is in order

this is just something that works for me though, idk how useful you'd find it
