Holographic communication flickers into life in Arizona
In Star Wars, Princess Leia records a 3D hologram of herself appealing for help from the Rebel Alliance in her epic battle against the Empire. The Emperor himself projects holographic messages to his henchman, Darth Vader. And, very soon, you too will be able to transmit messages in a similar way, whether or not you are involved in a galactic battle between good and evil.
Thanks to scientists at the University of Arizona, real-world holograms have finally started to catch up with their fictional cousins. In a paper published today in Nature, they report the transmission of moving 3D images from one place to another in almost real time. This means it may eventually be possible to communicate with moving 3D images of friends or colleagues who are on the other side of the world. Surgeons will be able to use the technology to step into virtual operating theatres in other cities, and films will become ever more immersive.

To be clear, they can refresh the 3d holographic image every 2 seconds now, where it use to take about 5 minutes.
Holy fuck. That's amazing. I think I just creamed my pants.
Awesome, one step closer to live holographic porn.

Four minutes, actually. Three minutes to create the image, and one minute to erase it so a new one could be made.

Still pretty damn good. At that rate, not long until Queen Amidala can speak to us from afar.
Indeed, i'd love to skype with my friends head floating in front of my keyboard.
And then i whip out my dick.
This brings Omegle to a whole new level.
Screw 3D, This is what we should focus on. just think of gaming with holograms

Porn with holograms is better.
Holographic gaming would allow you to just stand up and look over that wall your guy is crouching behind.

Porn with touchable holograms is best
Porn with touchable holograms is best
Then could the holograms kill you?
Throttle you until you died?
I can see the newspaper headline now...
"Local man strangled by porn star's rogue hologram"
"Local man loses genitalia at the hands of porn star's rogue hologram"
Fixed.

I wouldn't trust a news source that misspelled "porn" in their headlining article.

Could be a Facepuncher that wrote it...
I noticed my error and corrected it as fast as I could.
It would have noticed the mistake sooner if pron was underlined in red like all other misspelled words.
Is this related to the technology presented in this video? Please be!

Wished there was a video of this thing in action...
This is why I love science.
This could be really awesome once it becomes a refined technology and hits the mainstream market.
Imagine these holograms would be amazing, you are like taking a shit or something then all of sudden a hologram comes out of the toilet of your friend saying OH HI!. and you would get freaked out :D
