Hey, I'm going for a xfx 5770, i5 750 and XMS3 1600mhz cl9 build. But what mobo should I buy? I've heard Gigabyte is pretty good, but they are so picky about the ram! (If the lists on their website is right, it seems pretty slim). So please, reccomend me a preferably cheap, 1156 socket mobo!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128405 Very nice mobo if you do not mind M-ATX.
My case is a ATX, will that cause any problems? M-ATX is a mini version of ATX, am I right?
yup, should have no problems
ATX cases can take all M-ATX boards as well.
broke my merge :saddowns:
When you're done choosing, post the final list here. agh broke mine!
okay, i'll consider it, but; i found a pretty good card (i think) called; ga-p55-ud3 BUT I cant find it on newegg or other major retailers, am I about to buy some discontinued shit?
That? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128406&cm_re=gigabyte_ud3-_-13-128-406-_-Product I would get it, if it were my build. It's not discontinued shit.
Sorry, but thats the UD3L model, im looking at the UD3 without the L; this one http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=486110
That's fine too. But why get that when this will do the job just fine? http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=513293
p55 boards are a pain in the ass when it comes to ram
Shouldn't be too difficult to look at their supported RAM sheet and pick a set.
p55 boards are a pain in the ass when it comes to ram
No but the board I recommended make sure you put the ram in a blue and a white slot otherwise it will not boot up took me forever to figure that out.
Okay, I ordered, went for the UD3, as the website claimed they went well together with the RAM.
The i5-750 can only use 1333 MHz DDR3 unless you overclock the CPU. You can save a few bucks by getting DDR3 1333 instead of 1600, unless you plan on upgrading to an i7-870 later on.

I don't recall having to overclock the base clock to get to 1600MHz on my i7 860 & X3440, but i have to do what on my i3 530...
msi p55 GD65 its what i have and i love it

Well it's not really overclocking if the CPU stays at the same speed, is it?
Raising the BCLK is still overclocking :downs: Only the higher end i7 and Xeons supports the memory multiplier for DDR3 1600
of course, but you are not overclocking the CPU, :downs: just the base clock, assuming you lowered the multi so the processor is at stock clocks. [editline]04:23AM[/editline] but thanks for the second part, have an informative
Well it's not really overclocking if the CPU stays at the same speed, is it?
Yes, it is still overclocking. If you have a CPU that has a bus speed of 66 MHz and you increase the bus speed to 75, 83 or 100 MHz while changing the multiplier to keep the total clock speed around the same, it's still overclocking the processors bus speed.
Gigabyte is great. it is inadvisable to have RAM over 1.65v for 1156
but you're not overclocking the processor, you are overclocking the processors bus speed :colbert:
The bus speed is still part of the CPU :downs:
not really [editline]06:57AM[/editline] if you take away the CPU i guess the bus is gone oh shit fuck i guess it was never on the board
not really [editline]06:57AM[/editline] if you take away the CPU i guess the bus is gone oh shit fuck i guess it was never on the board
If you have a pipe valve that's rated at 50 liters per hour and you pump 200 liters per hour through it, it's clearly going out of spec. That's about as dumbed down as I can put it for you as you seem to not be getting it.
but that's the pipe, not the toilet. :downs:
Gigabyte is great. it is inadvisable to have RAM over 1.65v for 1156
The RAM sticks are 1.65 V, I guess thats all right? Anyway, they were on sale, and at the same price as 4gb valueram at 1333 so I just bought them instead.
