Once again dumb people try to stir controversy over nothing:
“This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority.” Following the release of its first full length trailer, Zoolander 2 is receiving pushback from LGBTQ activists. The controversy surrounds an androgynous supermodel played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, named All. In the trailer, Ben Stiller questions, “Are you like, a male model or a female model?” Owen Wilson’s character then asks the model, “Do you have a hot dog or a bun?” Activist Sarah Rose has started on online petition that has garnered more than 5,800 signatures. “Cumberbatch’s character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery of androgyne/trans/non-binary individuals,” writes Rose. “This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority.” Rose continues: “Like any rational person, I think there's a place for discourse and humor in society, but the last thing the transgender community needs at this moment is another harmful, cartoonish portrayal of our lives.”
[Source: Variety] I cannot wait for gays to boycott films with straight actors playing flamboyant gays in order to be treated more seriously. Oh wait, that never happened.
Haha didn't know JB was gonna be in this
“Cumberbatch’s character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery of androgyne/trans/non-binary individuals,”
Dunno... I've never seen any transpeople that look like the blue people from Avatar...
This only makes 2oolander better. Unless they're trolling, they're failing hard.
“Cumberbatch’s character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery
damn almost like absolutely everyone else in the movie get your head out of your ass for once
damn almost like absolutely everyone else in the movie get your head out of your ass for once
Shh, don't ruin it, non-cis people must only be presented as special snowflakes, it's a rule.
a comedy film doing comedy things? oh man, what has the world come to.
Stoked to see Kyle Mooney in this. I've loved his youtube videos for years.
I'm sorry but this movie just looks like shit to me. It's like it's trying too hard. Maybe it's because it's supposed to be that way and I never saw the first one, but I don't like what I've seen so far.
a comedy film doing comedy things? oh man, what has the world come to.
Makes you wonder how "anti-racists" would react to a new Rush Hour.
“This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority.”
you mean like what Robert Downey Jr. did in Tropic Thunder? i guess we'll react the same as we did to Tropic Thunder and just not give a shit?
How could benevolent cucumber be so malevolent
“Cumberbatch’s character is clearly portrayed as an over-the-top, cartoonish mockery of androgyne/trans/non-binary individuals”
I'm sorry did you watch the first movie? They make a mockery of all models, that's the point of Zoolander! His male model friends died in a literal gasoline fight and you're worried about them making a mockery out of a single character who was on screen for 5 seconds?
you mean like what Robert Downey Jr. did in Tropic Thunder? That's someone who has had their makeup done tastefully to look black. Actual blackface is a massive exaggeration of racial traits that mostly takes the piss out of them "haha look at their funny big lips haha their skin is dark arent we funny hahaha".
I'm sorry did you watch the first movie?
I think it's safe to say the answer is a big fat "no". People like this like to pretend to get offended and "boycott" things they wouldn't have even seen in the first place in order to make themselves feel special.
The entire first movie was all about being over the top, cartoonish mockery of a lot of things :v:
That's really not comparable to actual blackface. That's someone who has had their makeup done tastefully to look black. But drag queens and flamboyant androgynous people are a very real thing, unless whatever group is getting upset over this wants to deny that and claim Ben Stiller invented it When people are living the stereotype, can you really call it one
you mean like what Robert Downey Jr. did in Tropic Thunder? I mean, the character in the trailer isn't even really presented negatively. They are the top model of the new world. The only negative I can see is if you think being presented as obviously androgynous is inherently negative.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the joke is on the protagonists because they're unable to understand the other character since they're pretty much retarded.
The main protagonists are basically dumb models stereotypes. Much like how Austin Power is a parody of spy films.
The main protagonists are basically dumb models stereotypes. Much like how Austin Power is a parody of spy films.
Male models can be quite androgynous. Pretty sure thats what the character is taking to an extreme.
But why male model's?
trans person here this boycott is stupid

no fuck off
But why male model's?
Because its Zoolander?
That was some Alice in the Wonderland shit. (Which I liked though; vaporizing cat is the coolest.)
no fuck off
every lgbtq activist's petty excuses for "discrimination" ever.
