Remember the Airborne Laser (ABL), the jumbo-jet-mounted chemical laser weapon designed to knock hostile missiles out of the air in mid-flight? The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has released a video of this futuristic system in action, tracking and engaging a test missile fired from San Nicolas Island off the California coast. While the video might come off just a bit anti-climactic, with no dramatic explosion to cap off the laser blast, it does prove one key thing: the system, at least if the video is to be believed, actually works.

That is one huge ass laser. :iia:
Oh technology, how I love you so.
I remember watching a Discovery Channel thing on this not long ago.
All the missile needs to do is rotate and the laser is useless apparently.

Or have a reflective surface.
I love lasers
Me too
Lasers are awesome
Didn't this get cut? I remember John Stewart parodying some senator who wanted to keep it.
It's an airplane mounted LASER GUN.
How is that not cool?

The date in the lower right corner of the video is Jan 10 2010 so unless they did this video just for show, they are still working on it.
Totally awesome.

What would happen if you shot a person with that? Would he explode?
Then this plane better have this horn installed on it.

I won't care about lasers till they make real ones and put them in handheld guns.
And mount them onto hovercars.
Ever heard of a so called "laserpointer"?
Because laser pointers are handheld laser guns.
Note the word GUN
Have a bad reading.
Ever heard of a so called "laserpointer"?
He's referring to lasers that have the immediate killing potential of a bullet.
Laser shows: now with 1000% more awesome!
Wasn't much to see there, I was expecting the missile to, you know, explode or something.
I want one.

Tin foil missiles, they're the future :science:

This laser is intended to be used against nuclear missiles, you really don't want to make those explode if you're aboard that plane.
Military technology is so awesome.
First step towards las Cannon

I were hoping that this would be first step towards this:
