A few minutes ago i was given a Steam message from one of my friends
"Is that you in the photo (Suspicious as fuck link) ?"
I stupidly clicked the link and i was taken to a black page, chrome then told me it downloaded "Screen.scr"
I IMMEDIATELY deleted it and emptied my recycling bin, i didn't dare open it!
He told me he didn't send me that, it was probably automatic from the virus/hack thing.
I'm about to run a Malwarebytes scan for anything fucked up on my system.
enable steam guard + change your password
http://keepass.info/ use keepass if you want a "Hyper secure" pass
if you want to be VERY thorough, if anything is detected throw it into here https://www.virustotal.com/en/
remember to try in safe mode as well
It's a new virus making the rounds on compromised Steam accounts.
Basically it doesn't do any immediate damage to your computer (ie. deleting files and such.) But what it does do is register itself as a service and turns your machine into a botnet zombie. If you didn't execute the file then you're fine.
If your friend told you he didn't send the file, his machine is either compromised or someone stole his Steam account and is smurfing as him.

You know a way to get it to fuck off? I think the friend that sent me that probably would want to know.
Download the virus again and upload it to here:

It will give you a report of what it does to the system, which you can use to try and remove it. I would also send it to several AV companies to let them know about it if they don't already.
I don't know if the virus is detected by any AVs yet, but he can try MalwareBytes and Avast! to scan for it and remove it. If they don't find anything, I recommend reformatting the computer to be sure all traces of it are gone.
It also automatically trades out any shit from your Steam inventory like TF2 items, CS:GO, etc. so check if that happened, if so, contact steam and be really aggressive about demanding they get your shit back to you.
More info on it here where it's been dissected and everything, it's gotten pretty popular lately: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1436803
In short, reboot your computer, it doesn't auto-start with the system, so if you restart after getting infected you can just safely delete the file.
However, this virus will also spam everyone on your friends list with the same link, so be wary.
There must be multiple versions of the scr virus because the one that I got was completely different.

So long as they didn't run the .scr file they should be safe. Better to be safe and check to be certain however.
I just did a scan, it found a few suspicious files, but i think they are unrelated.
