• Council paints wonky white lines - insists it was deliberate

Drivers are being driven around the bend by wonky white lines painted along the centre of a busy road. But astonishingly bosses at Dorset County Council insist the road markings in Wimborne, Dorset. were painted deliberately wonky - as a safety measure to slow down traffic. Next they'll be telling us that this was deliberate too:

Oh wait I'm not on hallucinogens the town just painted the streets wrong. silly me!
It is Dorset, I'm surprised this hasn't happened before.
Well no shit they're deliberate How could you fuck up that bad on accident?
How could you fuck up that bad on accident?
Lots and lots of crack.
It could be deliberate looking at it. It's a 20 zone which means its a traffic calmed zone, so there should be traffic calming measure in place such as chicanes: or speed bumps. Looks like a cheap version of the chicanes

They spent millions in my town to slow down traffic in areas of the city by using chicanes. All it did was create an area for kids with riced out cars to attempt to get fastest times going through them.

I don't know maybe it's just me but white lines are the ONE thing i really want straight on roads, i wonder if people actually notice them all that much considering how automated a lot of the driving process can be for people.

This won't slow down traffic. Hell, they put heaps of chicanes in on a quiet road near me, and people go through there now twice as fast because it's fun trying to see how quickly you can pace through all the chicanes. It had completely the opposite effect... So now the wimps in that street are crying foul and demanding speed bumps be put in. Speed bumps slow down traffic. They also make people sneak out at night with jackhammers.
Fire engines can get through them
At what rate? Unless they're driving over them it seems like it'd take awhile.
Speed bumps slow down traffic. They also make people sneak out at night with jackhammers.
Though, using a jackhammer isn't much of a sneaky thing heh
Fuck. That.
It's not like you can't just go 40 through them anyway, unless you have a shitty understeering car. [editline]28th February 2014[/editline] Because these are just painted, nobody's actually gonna respect them. It's pointless.
At what rate? Unless they're driving over them it seems like it'd take awhile.
they have to slow down a fair bit but those things are always really far apart also they're never on like main roads or anything so its not likely they'll even go through one at all
hell that's what you do in Europe to slow people down? what if a service vehicle like a fire truck had to go that route all they do over here is just throw some speed bumps down and then they only are there till the first snow and then the plows just tear them up
I've never seen one of those in real life, I'm thinking only Britain has those. And man, are those chicanes dumb.

This does not make sense to me at all.
Idiots who speed are going to speed/drive recklessly anyway. Things like chicanes or speed humps/bumps are about slowing down all the law-abiding drivers and preventing accidents from people who are in a rush or doing make up or something stupid like that and bang into the car in front accidentally.
hell that's what you do in Europe to slow people down? what if a service vehicle like a fire truck had to go that route all they do over here is just throw some speed bumps down and then they only are there till the first snow and then the plows just tear them up
Kinda depends - chicanes, speedbumps and wiener passes are all pretty common
Chicanes and speedbumps are really common in the Netherlands, but they only tend to be used on 'secondary' roads. Roads next to schools, shopping malls, etc. 'Shortcut' roads. The impact on emergency services is non-existant, because they use different routes. And if they need to be in that particular street, they won't be going at the speedlimit anyway.
they dont even give a shit about the lines in the first place lol
Jesus that's a narrow street. Over here if it's that narrow, it's generally one lane, not 2.

Looks like a cheap version of the chicanes
I've seen one road like this in Finland. It's a very small road close to my parents' house who live pretty much in the countryside. There is pretty much no traffic there, and the few times I travelled through were with a bike on my summer-job to trim the bushes that were planted on them.
