• Installing windows 7 takes me to system recovery?
    8 replies, posted
I am trying to install 64 bit Windows 7 from Vista. I put the disk in and install it as normal, then it restarts and takes me to system recovery options. If I close system recovery options it just asks me if I want to restart my computer. I have tried reinstalling it several times and it still does the same thing. Any help would be useful!
Go to system recovery options and run startup repair. It seems like it didn't add the items to the boot manager.

Go to System Recovery and in the Command Prompt type bcdedit. What's listed? (Skip the GUIDs if you don't feel like typing them if you have to)
Ok I went to that and a shitload of stuff is listed. I can't type it all.
Try running these commands in CMD bootrec /FixMbr bootrec /FixBoot

I can't log into Vista because I haven't set a password for it. Should I reinstall Windows 7? You'll manually have to create a BCD Entry which is a pain in the ass to do via command. This should help: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721886(WS.10).aspx

Their has to be an easier way to do this.
