Oxford Circus Tube station evacuated by London police
Passengers have been evacuated from Oxford Circus Tube station in central London because of an emergency, British Transport Police has said.
Several police vans were parked at the corner of Oxford and Regent Streets.
Police said they would issue more details shortly but it is understood passenger alarms were deliberately activated on at least one train.
The matter is believed to be connected to a protest about the current political situation in Congo.
Oxford Circus serves the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria Lines.
It had been busy with Christmas shoppers throughout the evening, with retailers opening later, as is traditional on a Thursday.

So what's happening in Congo?
Evacuated maybe because of a protest? Seems like a bizzare place to hold one in the first place. But hopefully this is nothing serious.
Stations are evacuated all the time, I was just getting off a train at Tower Hill with bengley and the alarm went off and we had to run out with sirens and all that bullshit going off outside - I believe it was for a passenger taken ill on a train, but there's many reasons. It's a rarity for it to be in connection with a political event, so it'll be interesting to see where this goes.
Update: Situation resolved
A group of more than 200 Congolese demonstrators have caused an emergency evacuation of Oxford Circus Tube station in central London, British Transport Police (BTP) has said.
They set off a passenger alarm on a train they had boarded following an earlier protest in Whitehall over their country's political situation.
About 30 police officers were sent into the station, which was closed for half an hour at about 21:30 GMT.
No arrests were made, BTP added.
The group joined the Victoria Line at Green Park after gathering in Whitehall, police said, but became rowdy at Oxford Circus, which was the next stop northbound.
After the station was cleared, officers arranged for an empty Tube train to be brought in and all of the protesters were led to this, they added.
The demonstrators were transported to Seven Sisters station, and the Metropolitan Police arranged for them to be dispersed from there.
A general election is being held in the African nation of DR Congo, but opposition supporters allege the polls have been marred by fraud.
The emergency saw several police vans were parked at the corner of Oxford and Regent Streets.
The station serves the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria Lines.
It had been busy with Christmas shoppers throughout the evening, with retailers opening later, as is traditional on a Thursday.
Well, that makes sense. Dicks for pulling the alarm though
As a heads up for people unaware of the tube network, police moved them from Oxford Street to Seven Sisters on the Victoria line (which is a very long way (C5 to B7 on this map), probably about 30 minutes)

Genocide or political repression, probably.
