Apple says it will fix an embarrassing security flaw on its new iOS 7 software which hackers showed can bypass the lockscreen and access personal data.
The flaw, discovered within hours of iOS 7 becoming publicly available, can be exploited on the iPhone 4S and 5 and gives access to personal data including email, photos, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. It is exploited via the Control Center function, which is found by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. That offers access to the phone user's alarms, a calculator, and the camera, as well as frequently-used settings such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Airplane mode.
It appears not to work on the iPhone 5S and 5C.

wonder if they'll 'patch' the 3 minute battery life
Apple maps all over again.

I've been having trouble with the battery on my iPhone 4, it's pretty crap compared to what I had on iOS 6 and iOS 5.

This won't take too long to fix, just a bit of code.
Doesn't beat my android lockscreen which can be bypassed by simply pressing the home button.

I know a solution to that problem.
In involves not making your damn devices razor thin, and actually showing a respectably sized battery in it.

Doesn't work on mine.

There's that, but even on the fatter and heavier iPhone 4 the new OS manages to drain the battery like a sinkhole, not sure what's causing that.

Yeah, the 4's battery drains pretty fast. I might downgrade back to iOS 6 (or 5, I have SHSH for both)

Ouch, even a discount Android phone with a shitty rom+kernel sounds better in comparison.

yep, plus the thing runs like a brick in a washing machine, the animations are clunky as shit and sometimes stop altogether - that's the 'diet' version of the OS as well, without the parallax background or translucent keyboard.
but but but it has a tool-bar filled with useful crap like a flashlight and calculator built in! thats like 3 apps for the price of one (battery)

Exactly, I'm using mine right now and the 'drag' feature for most screens (where you 'drag' from the left) takes time to actually work. The lockscreen is buggy as shit, and some places have the 'aero glass' style effect (the dock, reminders, the lockscreen with notifications).
iOS 7 is a curse to the iPhone 4, just as iOS 4 was a curse to the iPod Touch 2G / iPhone 3G.
android ftw!

That's basically the only GOOD thing about iOS 7.
It's basically SBSettings rehashed.
so you're mad that they made an OS that works really well with their newest hardware, and still bothered to make it work at all on older hardware?
they didn't have to release it on the 4 at all, you know
it works excellently on my 5 - in fact it extended my battery life

Which rom and which lockscreen?
If you're using a secure lock method (pattern, pin, etc) on a rom that isn't stupid that won't happen.

Take SBSettings for example. It's fucking hideous.
They need to patch the iOS 7 waterproof function too, its not working properly!

There's also the other exploit where you can call any number you want using the emergency dialer by mashing the call button a lot of times

There's some setting that allows apps to refresh in the background that I turned off and it seemed to make my battery last longer. I might just be insane though.

I've seen this setting, I'll take a look. Thanks.

The funny part is my 4 has had the best battery life I've ever had with a smart phone before. It goes two full days without charge if I don't overuse it.
With iOS7 it died within 8 hours of little to no usage. I've already rolled back.
Disable background app refreshing and location services and your battery life will go up a lot.
wonder if they'll 'patch' the 3 minute battery life
Turn off the Backround App Refresh in settings

The newer iPhones have more efficient batteries, so iOS 7 is made to work with this extra power.
Unfortunately the older phones don't have the new efficient batteries so they will be drained of power a lot faster due to this.
I think.
I haven't noticed any battery life change in iOS 7 with my iPhone 4. I guess I'm used to charging it before I go to bed.
