While the CBC will continue to air Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays for the next four years, the national broadcaster will give up lucrative hockey revenues that have traditionally subsidized its slate of original Canadian programming.

The deal, the largest in NHL history, gives Rogers national rights to all NHL games, including the playoffs and Stanley Cup Final, on all of its platforms in all languages. TVA, a privately owned French-language network in Quebec, earned all of the Canadian French-language multimedia rights.
**SOURCE** Historically, the CBC aired most of Canada's hockey. The Harper government already slashed their funding because secretly they hate the CBC and now the other major source of income is about to vanish. Everybody's pissed. Even my teacher randomly vented her frustration in class today.
And the network that has the best panel and analysts gets nothing. It's a rotten deal.
Fuck, does this mean TSN is out too?
Friend was telling me about this on Skype earlier. Couldn't believe what I was hearing.
TSN got completely shut out.
Fuck, I've never watched a hockey game in my life on SportsNet. Guess that's about to change...
Doesn't Canada have a law that prevents Cable companies from gaining major sports events from freeview (free-to-air) channels? Australia passed something like that in 1990 because Foxtel, Optus Vision and Neighbourhood Cable were on the rise, now free to air channels like ABC, Seven, Nine, Ten and SBS can show big events without Foxtel calling it and making it cable only
Fucking corporate cocksuckers. I don't even know what more I need say about Harper and the Conservative government. Fuck him with a rusty, spiked morning star. Deals like this shouldn't even be allowed in an economy like ours, and they're only really possible with a government like his presiding.
I'm pretty sure less than 1% of my city's population uses Rogers. Can we still watch it with Shaw Cable?

And these piece of shit monopolys have been around for a while.
I don't even think Rogers does cable in NS If it does it must be shit
As long as I can still watch Don Cherry mispronounce players names repeatedly and shout at Ron McLean.
The sportsnet anchors suck cock. They all look fucking weird too. I think it's fair to say I'm very upset.

Are you honestly joking? Harper's got nothing to do with this kind of deal, and these kinds of deals are not unique to the country under a Conservative government. Honestly, blaming Harper for every little thing you don't like is so ridiculously immature and childish. Last I checked, he controls neither Rogers nor the NHL, so how is he to blame for this? Also, the Liberals banned morning stars in 1995. Also, the CBC's made it overtly clear they hate Harper, and seem to have a strange aversion to disclosing how they're spending public money, but again, that has very little to do with the topic at hand.

Whether you like or don't like Harper, everyone knows the Conservatives do not like the CBC. Can't really blame them, the CBC has had a real stick up their ass about the Conservatives since the party even existed.
Fucking corporate cocksuckers. Prices are still dictated by Bell/Telus/Rogers' collusion. The conservatives are a lot of talk but no action.
So apparently CBC cut a deal with Rogers of some kind.
its OK because they own exclusive rights to the Olympics so they'll just show one channels worth of coverage and sue anyone else who wants to broadcast
