It looks so wierd.
I loved the first one, but this one just looks wierd.
That roll combined with that FOV and the 60fps are making me feel (motion)sick, which is a first for me, so that's pretty cool I guess. :ok:
Looks like they took a page from the Fisher-Price design manual. The first mirror's edge looked great because it used high-quality bumpmaps, which combined with low-detail diffuse maps made everything look very detailed. Everything in Catalyst looks either flat or made of a reflective material. The costume designs look pretty bad, too.

I remember back when the first ME came out people were having this issue too, which is the reason they added the option to put that little dot reticle in the middle of the screen. They found a focal point for people, even a tiny one, relieved the issue prettymuch entirely.
Personally I have had really bad and sensitive simulation sickness problems since I was a kid, FOV below about 80 gives me horrible headaches and 30 fps on many first person games makes me sort of dizzy most of the time, but this doesn't actually bother me.

That and they have a totally different art director.
From what I could find regarding the art direction of the first game, the team were really put through their paces nailing that art style and it wasn't just colour usage and lighting there was a lot of effort in architecture, object placement and utilizing the space as you would with any static art piece.
Also even I'm getting motion sick from that roll. It seems way slower than the roll in ME1.
The main issue with the visuals overall is the colour just doesn't seem to have any care put into it. You've got a shit ton of colours blending together either through lighting or just objects in the world but it's too messy to really stand out in a positive way.
I thought the game hit the art style most of the time but some outdoor sections seem way off
the indoor design is where it's at
I didn't get motion sick from it, but the whole thing just looks weird. It looks like it's a tad slower than it should be - especially the rolling

Some areas are super reflective whilst others (mainly the where the low caste live) share a similar art style to the original game.

I think the outdoor design seems off because everything generally felt like a tunnel in the first game, with a few set ways you can advance and parkour puzzles sprinkled between sections, meanwhile this is open and you can go just about every way you want with (at least it seems like it from the gameplay) no real puzzles to speak of, leaving it feeling empty and the parkour not being nearly as impactful.
