• Best gaming CPU?

I'm looking for the best of the best performing CPU for video games, money is not an issue. Also, would the 3960x or the 3930k outperform any quad core in existence?--- That would be a quicker way of answering my question :v: [editline]8th April 2012[/editline] For video games, I mean. since i think source and most are optimized for quad / dual core CPUs
An i7 won't really perform much better than an i5 for games.
Agreed. You won't see any noticeable improvement past an i5-2500K.
I mean, if money's really not an issue, then by all means get the most powerful and expensive Intel proc you can. However, there's really no point if you're just looking for improvements in your games. The 2500k is the best choice for that.

Games are generally limited by the GPU nowadays. Just look at Battlefield 3 - if you run it all maxed out (especially on a 2560x1600 or multi-monitor), you'll probably be bottlenecked by your GTX 680 before you're bottlenecked by your Athlon II. Of course in older games you'll be bottlenecked by your CPU instead, but it's not like that would be a problem. Not that I would ever recommend an Athlon II with a GTX 680.

An Athlon would get fucked to hell and back by BF3.
