I've had this discussion many times with friends, and got reminded of it today by another thread here mentioning how his parents smoke weed, but won't let him do it.
So I decided to ask DD their views. If any of you happen to actually have kids and browse DD, tell us what your current rules and views are etc.
So yeh DD, would you let your kids smoke Marijuana? At what age would you deem them old enough to begin, or would it depend on maturity. Would you wait and see if they begin by themselves and then drop a bombshell saying you smoke too, or introduce it too them?
Personally, I wouldn't even consider letting my kid begin smoking until highschool, and then it becomes a question of maturity.
When they seem mature enough to handle it, and not go overboard etc, I think I'd introduce them too it, start them off slow etc.
They can smoke Bud if they keep their grades above C's and do something physical. And not until 16 at very least. I think I'd bombshell them.
they'd have to have at least a B average. they'd have to be at least 16. basically what meader said. even though i started when i was 13, and i'm 15 now. whatever.
Absolutely not below the age of 18. Then after that they're free to decide for themselves.
not below age of 18, decent grades and job for own income. they can grow as many weed as they want when theyre below 18 but dads gonna smoke it all LOL j/k j/k well stash that in the cellar, longer curing = better taste too :))
zeem i just want to let you know that i love your posting style and everything you say makes me smile
just because of how quirky you seem
heads up

Yeh I didn't mention that in my OP, but good grades are a must. Like I said with the going overboard, if it starts to affect there grades they get cut off. And 16 sounds about right, but depends on how mature your kid is, and if your a good parent he should be good by 16
I wouldn't want them to smoke but if they do I won't punish them.
So long as they keep it out of the house, keep their grades up, and don't get in trouble with the law.
As long as they didn't do it excessively, had grades up, at least 15 (more if they were irresponsible), had a way to pay for it, and didn't get in trouble then I would be fine with it. They could do it in the house if they met all my requirements if they wanted to.
of course just not at school cause you can get in some shit for doing that
personal experiences lol

You know there's no way to cut them off... They'll just hide it and get even worse grades.
Not until 16, but it would entirely depend on the child. Only if I thought they could be responsible about it
As long as they pass all their classes and are mature enough to toke.
i've decided that when my kid starts smoking, and I catch him, I'm going to yell at him and tell him never to do it again, then im going to smile, pull out a big blunt and smoke him our right
i'd let my kid smoke after they're like 16 or so, that's when i started. or when they seem mature enough to not be retarded about it.
i'd just make sure they know what the fuck they're doing, i.e. don't smoke in school and stupid shit like that, keep your grades up, stay active and shit.
if they start any sooner, i'm smoking all of it and making them watch me do it. i'm gunna chain smoke jays until it's all gone.
unless it's schwag, then i'm throwing it out in front of them cause it's bad weed and my kids are fucking better than that. when i have them, that is.
itd be great because they'd be scared shitless and then id just be all naw jking its cool
If I caught them smoking at 16 I would make it clear that I do not approve of smoking in the house and that by smoking weed they are putting me at risk since I am the legal guardian. Also any they'd have to pay any legal fees. Once they turn 18, I would likely charge them rent if they still lived in the house and would kick them out for smoking in the house. The main points would be: don't smoke in the house; don't put me at jeopardy; don't smoke in the house.
I am of course a huge hypocrite of what I'm saying because I've always smoked in my parent's house.

I'd be more worried about them being caught in public rather then my own house, it's much easier and safer smoking AT the house then having to find somewhere outside
id let my kid smoke so long as he was atleast 14
[editline]25th March 2011[/editline]
i'm not gonna be one of those hypocritical 'do as i say not as i do' parents cuz i've lived with mine for 18 years and it's really frustrating
not until they were at least 16, and only if they had a passing grade.
hell fucking no
i didn't smoke pot until i was over 18
they reckon it can mess with brain development
smoke weed erryday (except they have to be 18 and mature)
I'd wait for them to finish school, I've seen to many people who's parents were real lax about it end up blazing everyday and doing shit at school. Not saying that blazing everyday makes everyone bad at school, but that certainly seems to happen to a majority of people.
all the kids that I knew that blazed at school are nowhere in life now
You know there's no way to cut them off... They'll just hide it and get even worse grades.
hopefully they would respect you enough to actually listen to you when you say no smoking until better grades, and most kids who parents let them smoke might think their parents are cool because of letting them smoke so they will listen to them

That's why I would make certain, that they do it for the first couple times with me, as a means of gaining their trust. I would even give them bud, so long as I know they can handle it. And you never know, I did my homework stoned in high school and I graduated with a 4.0. What do you think?
I'll let my kids go drinking and let them smoke cigarettes and whatever but I'm not going to buy them anything until they turn 16, and weed will come after they live for themselves. I don't want to be the parent letting my kids smoke weed cause of the legal trouble they'd get in this country yo.

so are you saying you don't mind if they drink and smoke cigarettes but they have to move out before they can smoke weed? that makes no sense, man.
also, knut was an awesome polar bear. why did he have to drown :(
I wouldn't let my kids smoke before the age of 16 or 17.
I'm feeling really broody :/
But NO! I won't let that happen again for aaaaaages.
