• Samsung uses iOS image to promote Galaxy Player 5.0

[release] Things haven't been easy for Samsung in 2011. After judges ruled against Samsung in lawsuits relating to Apple's iPad and the Galaxy Tab, the company was battered and bruised, but managed to survive. Now... things aren't going to get any easier for the company, after Gizmodo spotted that they were found to have shared an image of Google Maps running on the Galaxy Player 5.0. The issue with the image? See for yourself: What's that amalgamation of the two most popular mobile operating systems? Android and iOS have been fused into one image, to promote a Samsung device which doesn't run iOS. The application is Google Maps, so it's not exactly like it isn't available on Android (and if it isn't on your OS don't use it to promote, obviously). It's quite interesting to see Samsung do this, because the source of the image has been traced to 2008. Originating on Laura Scott's blog, BlogHer, the image can be viewed on her Flickr here. It's quite disappointing to see Samsung doing this, and it will only hurt their cases against Apple in the future. It is not currently intentional if the South Korean electronics giant intentionally chose the image they did, or if someone in the PR department just has a habit of picking really bad images to edit into promotional shots. It's like they actually WANNA fight
Google still owns the rights, so meh. Still, it's funny.
What the fuck are they doing.
That picture is OLD (2008), so you can't count it as an offensive move on the Samsung side
Samsung: Come at me bro.
Well, that's really fucking stupid now isn't it Samsung?
Obviously wasn't a smart move. Whoever stuck this together was clearly a very intoxicated Samsung employee at the time and decided to grab the first image he/she could find off the web. That tends to be from one of the popular technology sites first - I wouldn't be surprised if it was just pulled off Google Images without any intention to stop and check the source. Samsung wouldn't do this intentionally unless they were looking for a death wish.
Meanwhile at Samsung: "Oh hey, the phone market is a little tense lately, and Apple is picking fights with everyone who dares make anything similar. What's the best thing we could do here? I know, let's blatantly use their whole OS in an image, nobody will ever know"
Probably a mistake by the PR agency.
They're just asking to be sued now.

I wonder if they even asked for permission. It would be really sad if someone like samsung just took a random image off the net without even asking the owner.
Why would they ask permission? It's not like apple would be like "sure, go ahead and use our property as advertisement"
Doesn't even matter because google owns both applications, still dumb on Samsung's part though
Why would they ask permission? I'd feel offended if someone took an image from my blog and used for their ad and didn't even tell me.
Doesn't even matter because google owns both applications, still dumb on Samsung's part though
Yes but google doesn't own the rights on iOS graphics
Doesn't even matter because google owns both applications, still dumb on Samsung's part though
Apple "owns" the interface though (search bar and location pop-up thing).
Microsoft also did this with ff13 (they were showing some ps3 game play instead of 360) don't really see the big deal
Don't see the big deal? It's false advertisement, that's the big deal. And Microsoft (deservedly) received hell for that little incident.
Apple: 'Look, even THEY can't tell the difference between ours and theirs!'
Why in the hell would they use an iOS image anyways?
To be fair, Apple has copied and stolen ideas, Steve even said thats exactly what he does. But... really... What the fuck man? Samsung, are you trolling or something?
today i saw someone with a galaxy s and i thought it was an iphone i felt stupid afterwards :c
and people here still want to believe apple are the bad guys
and people here still want to believe apple are the bad guys
Apple = bad guys Samsung = Just being plain dumb
