Good thing you can just buy it then in this case
Yep it's gonna fail

With real money only from the sounds of it.
you gotta love how he says "well that isnt really the word id use, id say your just paying for temporary access to it. but its not real money so its not renting!"
from what they're saying, it looks like there won't be a free rotation either? they just mentioned you use a starter character to re- i mean, temporarily gain access to others. so now there's not only grinding to re- i mean temporarily gain access to other champions, but you have to pay for them to figure out if you want to keep paying for them.
i wouldn't mind this at all, if the champion pack they discussed wasn't so openly worded, as to suggest you'll only get the set amount of launch champs. if it were like smite's pay once play EVERYONE forever, then sure, id consider the payment system to be more try before you buy.
but as it stands right now this is really disgusting. you HAVE to pay real money for permanent acces from what it seems, and on top of that, you have to ocntinue paying real money if you want to continually have everything
oh, and yes i did read about reliquaries, but i hate chest components that make themselves an integral part of any game, so i wont even include it on the fact that it sounds like you have to gamble to unlock heroes for free permanently (assuming thats not timed too).
I think you guys are really blowing this out of proportion. While it is kind of shitty that it seems you can't buy new characters directly with in-game currency (and should be changed imo), the overall F2P system looks very similar to Killer Instinct and Smite (Which people are perfectly fine with).
It really depends on how much this "ultimate pack" costs and if the characters are the only game changing thing you can buy. If those are perfectly reasonable (I think $40 is probably the highest I would spend. Anything higher is too much, imo.), I don't see how this would be any different than the game just being like Overwatch, where you have to buy the game to play it at all.

Like I said, the issue is not only do you have to buy the game for permanent access to characters, but they ALSO leave the door open for MORE characters you have to buy.
R6 seige was similar, but you could actually straight up permanently unlock characters in that game with ingame currency.
I do agree that there should be a way to permanently unlock characters directly (I'm not really sure if these "reliquaries" the article is talking about unlocks the characters permanently or if they're also just rentals.), I don't think having to buy the ultimate pack is that bad.
Similar to Killer Instinct, you can see the F2P aspect of the game as just a glorified demo where, you can still play the game with people and see if you like it or not without having to spend money on it. The game could have just been a normally full priced game and I don't think people would have cared this much.
I'm going to wait and see what they do with DLC characters. I would like if they just did what Smite does with the ultimate pack and just gives you every future character forever, but I'm not really sure if they'll do that.
I smell DOOM 2016's multiplayer all over again
lol okay I mean games like Smite or League of Legends or Dirty Bomb already have systems like this, so feel free to call Quake Champions a failure right out of the gate but I have this sneaking suspicion it'll do just fine.

I don't see how this is remotely similar.
I fail to see why this is a poor business model from the info we have currently. I could only see it being shit depending on the price and how the other champions compare to Ranger. This is a game where having access to all of the characters isn't required for it to be fully functional. Not mention, games like Killer Instinct and Smite had similar things yet I hardly remember anyone complaining about their business models.
It's especially good for people like myself who don't give half a shit about the champions all that much and just want to play as Ranger and/or custom games with character abilities and attributes turned off.
