• Facepunch inflating their numbers..

not sure if this is the right section.. I figured if I put it in General it'd get blocked/banned. Anyways.. I've noticed on a few of their forums (General Discussion) and (Rust) it ALWAYS says 100+ people, and normally 100-110 of them are "guest", now I've been part of a LOT of forums, and never before in my life have I seen a forum where there are 5-15 users, and 100+ guest. And judging by how many threads are updated (or lack thereof) this forum doesn't have many users at all. No matter what time of the day I log in or whatever... Soo my question to all of you is: Do you think FP is inflating their forum numbers to make it look like more people are chatting? (User was banned for this post ("This is NOT a debate thread" - Craptasket))
There are constantly 500+ people online, there used to be a list of users at the bottom of the main page but it went down for some reason. Why would we need to inflate our numbers?
Look at the bottom of the main forum page.
607,759 threads, 27,460,298 posts, 26,478 active members, 4035 online (2100 guests) Most users ever online was 20,777, 4 Weeks Ago at 01:53PM.
Facepunch is way bigger than you might think, and there are a lot of visitors without accounts that cruise in. Especially about Rust, a game that's sold over 1.6 million copies in under a year on Steam. So, no, based on the current visitor stats (quoted above) and what counts as normal traffic for Facepunch.com, no, I do not think the devs are sending clickbots to fool you into thinking Rust is popular.
Do you think FP is inflating their forum numbers to make it look like more people are chatting?
And the point of that would be what, exactly? Facepunch is actually one of the biggest forums on the internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_forums), also here you can see all posts on FP being made in realtime http://facepunch.com/fp_ticker.php, there's like 10 every minute

Auto forums, minecraft forums, star citizen, xbox, mmorpg.com, etc etc etc... Either A. FP is inflating their numbers (to make it look more appealing to new users) OR this is the most inactive community I've ever seen. Example, mmorpg.com has normaly 100-150 users (total) online at any given time. I post a thread, and it will be responded by multiple people in seconds.. I post something here, then I go to work, I go get lunch..and then I get home again, check..and MAYBE 2 people have responded to a thread. (And its not just my threads, its everyones.) Just seems like FP's numbers don't = people actively posting.

If you post a topic those places, people will likely respond to it. Also consider that those forums are massively smaller than Facepunch. As well, look at the post two above yours, 4000+ active people, half of those actual members. We're not exactly inactive. Do consider as well that if you post a topic and no one replies, it's probably just not interesting or not relevant depending on what you're posting where. Besides, there's nothing to be gained by "inflating our numbers" and nothing to be lost by doing so. Go post in the Fast Threads for a while, they move a LOT faster than Mass Debate or General Discussion.
