n addition to cancelling its popular “American Guns” reality show, The Discovery Channel confirmed to Raw Story on Tuesday that firearms enthusiast Ted Nugent will also not be returning to the channel in any form or fashion.
Speaking to Raw Story in remarks specified as “not for attribution,” a spokesperson admitted that “Ted Nugent’s Gun Country” didn’t do very well when it aired in October, even with fellow firearms fashionistas. Nielsen Ratings placed the viewership at about 864,000 people in all. But the network’s decision is not just about the numbers.
After Friday’s devastating massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the spokesperson said that Nugent would definitely not be returning to the Discovery Channel.
Nugent and his allies at the National Rifle Association (NRA) repeatedly claimed that his hour-long Discovery Channel special was actually a planned “series.” The Detroit native and longtime southern rocker even told Armed America Radio listeners in October to “expect that there will be at least a dozen shows a year.” The channel’s spokesperson confirmed that this was never actually in the works.
Nugent, who endorsed Mitt Romney for president, was investigated by the Secret Service earlier this year after he urged NRA members to “chop [Democrats'] heads off in November.”
“I’ll tell you this right now, if Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year,” the rocker said in April.
News of Nugent’s fall at Discovery comes the same day that the channel confirmed it is cancelling “American Guns,” a popular reality show that glamorizes a family that produces deadly weapons.
“‘American Guns’ concluded earlier this year,” the network’s prepared statement explains. “Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show.”
Although the Discovery Channel’s statement did not directly link the cancellation of “American Guns” to Friday’s massacre, the channel’s spokesperson did say the tragedy “has really started something,” but didn’t specify what that something may be.
Nugent’s spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Okay I think Ted Nugent is almost braindead but cancelling a show because of a massacre? This is like withholding that Family Guy episode.

Typical kneejerk reaction.
I suppose it stinks that he got pulled, though I guess after what's been going on lately it's understandable.
augh ted nugent is my hero :(

Cancelled because of the massacre is close enough i think, I'd imagine they're scared of being blamed for inciting gun violence. All it takes is one shooter to have this on his computer and they'll pretty much be forced to shut down the show and get tons of bad PR.
ted nugent's show did pretty poorly and I've never even heard of american guns so it's safe to say that they probably just used the shooting as an excuse to cancel an hour worth of programming that nobody watches

well, their spokesperson said the tragedy 'has really started something' maybe they think it's the start of gun culture in america becoming less prevalent and they want to add to that by getting rid of shows that endorse this culture? i mean a show called 'american guns' obviously does nothing but glorify exactly that

also LOL yeah now i remember that 'dead or in jail by next year' thing nugent said hahaha can't way to see how that pans out
Well, while its just my opinion, American Guns was an awful show. It left a pretty horrible taste in my mouth with the things they showed on it. Mostly just how fake the people were and uninteresting and pushy they were about buying things. While the show Sons of Guns is also a similarly dramatized show, I like it significantly more.
Stupid reason to cancel the shows, but the shows were stupid to begin with. Like really terrible.
augh ted nugent is my hero :(
You have my pity.
American Guns was such a terrible show. They absolutely butcher good firearms and the owner of the gun store was a horrible and corrupt person according to both the BBB and other customer reviews. The show was really about a Christian family trying to raise their daughter right while happening to own a gun store.
Remember, Sons of Guns is still on air at this point. And its much better of a show.
It sad someone lost their job, but Ted is a bit of a tool
The show existed just to parade around that guy's daughter.
Great. America's balls a bit smaller and stomachs a bit more yellow, now. The last real men of this country are either serving in the military right now, or are veterans
I thought Ted Nugent died with Ray Mears on the Death Road in Bolivia.

What constitutes a "real man"?
augh ted nugent is my hero :(
time to get a new hero
What constitutes a "real man"?
someone who's willing to give up all notions of individuality and do exactly as they are told regardless of the consequences. lol
What constitutes a "real man"?
In his case, the extra Y chromosome makes him extra manly.

red jacket firearms is an awful company as well
So many overreactions it's making me sick. Doing this will not really help anything.
What constitutes a "real man"?
A man who's willing to die for what he believes in, who takes orders, unless they go against his values, a man willing to fight off the tyranny of some group stuck in the blimey dark ages and help a developing nation onto their feet. A man who isn't afraid of death, who breaks national boundaries and stands with his sword brothers, no matter were they were born.
A man who's willing to die for what he believes in,
Except many soldiers tend fight just because they were given orders, not because their personal values told them to.
who takes orders,
Except there's quite a lot of different men who take different orders.
unless they go against his values,
I grant you this.
a man willing to fight off the tyranny of some group stuck in the blimey dark ages and help a developing nation onto their feet.
A fairly high degree of economic freedom and removing blocks on trade alongside investing into a country has done more good than military action ever will.
A man who isn't afraid of death,
So somehow most men throughout human history are now "not men"?
who breaks national boundaries and stands with his sword brothers, no matter were they were born.
Empty rhetoric, like much of the rest of this post.
A lot of men and women have lived and died throughout history. To place greater value on the small number of men who are selected disproportionately from the lower classes to fight wars for national interest rather than the great men and women who helped invent new things, develop new ideas, pushed along social, economic or political reform is depressing.

Dave Mustaine. :v:
A bad show is canceled, a bad person is fired.
A great day in America
