Actually the best I've felt in a while. Target sucks, please don't work there or shop there. Also, if you support gay rights don't shop there because they gave an anti-gay rights politician in Minnesota $150,000 a while back. So boycott and whatnot (even though I'm not gay).
They also took my 10% discount card, what a bunch of tools.
Little do they know I have a backup job where I make $10 an hour in cash, not some $7.25 bullshit that has taxes and Social Security taken out of it.
Rate optimistic for being legally unemployed!
I do not understand.
You're making less money than you originally were?
Wat?

No, I worked at Target, made $7.25 an hour + whatever they pull out for taxes and social security. They had only been working me weekends (though I was available whenever) for like 6.5 hours a week.
I had a backup job just spring up which I took last night that makes $10 an hour cash at a baseball park flipping burgers on Saturdays.
Freaking boss trade off if you ask me.

boss?
Really?
quick make a thread
Flip some burgers.

I'm using boss as an adjective, not saying that my boss got traded off. I meant that it's a sweet trade off

I think he was just astounded by your use of boss as an adjective.
Ninja'd
If you're gonna be flipping burgers for a baseball park, then you got your self into a seasonal job. I would have stayed at target or found a better store/job to work at.
Oh, me and my friends say it from time to time. "Whoa dude, that was pretty boss / bauss"
We also use a plethora of other adjectives that are outdated.

If you read the title of the thread it's clearly called "I just got fired!" not "I just quit my job!" Therefore, I cannot stay at Target. Luckily, I have connections with some co-managers and respectable employees at McDonalds. Plus 13 months of experience at a local grocery store (not Target). So that will look good on my resume / transcript when I give it to them. My friend said I had a pretty much surefire shot at getting hired.
I shop at target. They have some pretty fair prices. Their dog mascot, while isn't the most creative, sure beats some of the other horrible mascots the other big box stores have.
I think they're a bit overpriced on things, at least until they hit clearance, then you can find some good stuff, also their clothing is well priced and somewhat trendy. For everything else I'd rather shop somewhere like Wal-Mart or CompUSA (for electronics at least). A 12 pack of Coke at Target will run you up about $3.50 while a 24 pack at Wal-Mart will cost you $5. Great deal.
why were you fired?
For all we know you're a shit employee.
also have fun, whenever you want a new job, your potential future employer will see that and will think twice about it. I doubt that alone would cause them to over look you; i'm just saying.

I'm not a bad worker, it was a huge mistake on my part. It could be confusing, lemme try to explain.
So, they had me working Friday, Saturday and Sunday (today). After a series of events it turns out that my mom had to work until 8PM on Friday (my shift that day was 5:00-9:45) and my dad is out of state at the moment. So, I went to write my shift as available about a week ago, that way someone else could cover my shift and I wouldn't be leaving them lacking a worker that night. Thinking that Friday was October 2nd, I wrote down my shift hours "5:00-9:45 10/2/2010" in the book.
I come back a week later and someone has signed their name, meaning they would take my shift and got the signature from an LOD (manager) for approval. So I went up and saw that someone had agreed to cover my shift, still not occurring to me that my shift I had written down in the book was on Saturday, not Friday.
Saturday rolls around and yet another mishap- my mom's car breaks down in the morning, my car is the only car at the house (my dad is out of town, remember?) so I am reluctant to call in and tell them I can't make it, asking them to cover my shift. I am informed that I was a no-show on Friday. Puzzled as hell, I explain to them that I requested Friday off and someone had taken my shift. The chick I talk to says she'll go double check and call me back, an hour passes and they don't call me back, so I call again to make sure it's cool that I can't make it and she said that my shift for Saturday had already been covered (I was supposed to work 3:30-9:45).
I realize my mistake and the lady tells me she'll talk to the HR Rep about it, though it's Target policy that you are let go / fired if you have a no-show in your first 90 days of employment. So I show up today, hoping to discuss the whole shindig with the HR lady, I clock in 5 minutes early (they ask that you do that) and she gets me in her office, takes my name tag and my discount card and tells me I'm fired and she has to be "fair" meaning that I get the same treatment as any other no-show would despite my case.
So that's how I got fired from my part time job. Knowing the rules and how everything works, I kind of saw it coming as soon as I realized what I had done. I was actually kind of indifferent about it, but it still sucks that I can't use them as a 2 month reference when seeking future employment. I didn't like it there anyways though, so I guess it's better than waiting two weeks until they could hire someone new. Basically all of this happened due to me writing down 10/2 instead of 10/1. What a difference numbers can make.
You're fired because you messed up.
That constitutes you as a bad worker by some people's standards.
Also you're employer can fire you for whatever reason they want.
OP jizzed in the mayo, rate him optimistic
That is absolute bullshit to be fired for missing ONE day of work with no call. Two days is somewhat understandable.
I had to do something similar before at my job, and i have on occasion, missed a day of work without calling in. They gave me a slap on the write and a "disciplinary action" which i think if i get 3 of them i have to meet with a manager to discuss my future employment.
Target is so fucking strict.

Not true.
They have to have valid reasoning with proof. If it breaks a rule then they can fire you, but what the op got was way too harsh. He missed ONE DAY of work, so that's one day out of probably a hundred that he's shown. While i understand that he broke a rule and should be punished, termination is an overreaction.

Not with today's economy. There are tons of people looking for a job that'll show up every single day.
Rated optimistic.
Even though none of us give a fuck.

That means a lot to me, thank you <3
I don't think I'm a bad employee, I'm just a part-time employee who's still a 17 year old student who made an honest mistake. You're very correct though, there are hundreds upon thousands of people that would kill just to have a part-time job at the moment. Hopefully someone more deserving gets it, I only have to worry about paying for gas, which is ironic because I spend most of my gas driving to work, lol. Plus that place was like 30 minutes away, so the McDonald's I'm hoping at working at soon is seriously 5 minutes or less away from the house.

Uhm, no, they really can't. Maybe in my case it was a reasonable cause, but there are instances where they cannot fire you just because.

Yes they can, and if you contest it, they will say they fired you for a reasonable cause.

Oh, so I guess human resources and the like are all useless? I'm pretty sure you can get in trouble as a business if you fire / refuse to hire someone due to race, gender, religion or age.
Also, it's against the law in many cases for one company to tell another company to not hire you or give you a bad reference. They can tell the other company basically how long you were employed there, and that's about it. You aren't REQUIRED to even list a reference in many cases. Also, I have over a year's experience with a good reference somewhere else, at the age of 17, I think that's pretty good to have in your repertoire.

that depends on the state
if you live in one of the turquoise states, you can be fired for literally any reason, including but not limited to because your employer felt like it
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/Right_to_work.svg
I live in Florida, a turquoise state, and my grandpa had an age discrimination issue and took the place to court for hiring someone who was under-qualified and applied after he did (my grandpa actually knew the guy from his previous job), but younger while he is 63 and has over 30 years experience in the field and worked as a pretty highly ranked district manager for a similar company for many years.

Your employer will just say they fired you because of something like poor work ethic, or negative working attitude.

that was seriously one sentence?
that was seriously one sentence?
You can't say shit about my grammar, lol. At least I capitalize and use proper punctuation (in most cases).
When your neighbour looses his/her job, it's a recession. When you loose your job, it's a depression.
