Are they cheaper/better in general? Like the AMD Phenom II X4 965 vs. the i5 750? Yes, I know it's a stupid question.
Do you mean "bang for buck" type thing?
Depends. If you want a cheap cpu, then go amd, if you don't mind spending more, go intel.
Do you mean "bang for buck" type thing?
Kinda, but what's better. The 965 or whatever by AMD is only $15 less or so than the i5 but is it any better or am I better off with the i5?
The i5 would do above and beyond for most needs but if you want something that just works then it's AMD.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727&cm_re=rg350dx-_-19-103-727-_-Product It's the exact same price as the i5 and is also a quad-core. Any better or just about equal?

I would suggest an i5, easier to overclock aswell
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=102&p2=109
From that, I would say the i5 is much better since it's easier to overclock.
If anyone cares, the i9 will be LGA 1366, just remember that.
If anyone cares, the i9 will be LGA 1366, just remember that.
Not relevant with the thread, but okay.
From that, I would say the i5 is much better since it's easier to overclock.
uhh, it wins in nearly every single test I'd say it's better at any point [editline]06:45PM[/editline]
If anyone cares, the i9 will be LGA 1366, just remember that.
hey look, an idiot who still bothers with this retarded argument going to break this down carefully for you $1000 for a server CPU $1000 for a workstation CPU $1000 for a server/workstation CPU on a server/workstation socket
If anyone cares, the i9 will be LGA 1366, just remember that.
Hey, I'm not updated at hardware at the moment, but is the 1366 socket the future? Like the step from DDR2 RAM to DDR3 RAM. Thanks for any answers.
Hey, I'm not updated at hardware at the moment, but is the 1366 socket the future? Like the step from DDR2 RAM to DDR3 RAM. Thanks for any answers.
1366 is the socket used for more expensive server/workstation CPUs, e.g i7s i9s i7 isn't the future, the i_ line is, hell in a few days Intel are releasing a couple of new i5s and i3s the way it'll work now is i7s are high end, i5s and mid end and i3s are low end
Thanks for your answer raepaninja. Are all the i3's, i5's ,i7's and i9's quadcore?
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=865756 current i7/i9 are quad, current i5 is a quad new i5s are duals with hyperthreading which should make them technically quads, i3s are duals with no hyperthreading [editline]07:55PM[/editline] just remember quad doesn't automatically mean better, it depends on what you're using it for
This confuses me, is not that like taking a step back? If you're gonna buy a new processor for heavy gaming like crysis on very high, would you go for the new dual i5's or the i5 thats on the marked now with 4 cores?
for their performance we'll have to see reviews when they're released it's not really taking a step back because someone's grandma doesn't need to max crysis, they're just updating their lower end to the i_s and getting rid of Core 2s
