I just recently re-installed Windows 7 Professional on my desktop, and every once in a while i'll leave my computer, only to return and find my taskbar missing.
The only thing still there is the windows orb, everything else is just transparent.
I tried hiding/unhiding the taskbar and playing around with the taskbar's settings to no avail
Finally I heard it may have something to do with explorer.exe fucking up, so I killed the process in task manager then clicked new task> explorer.exe
This seemingly fixes the problem temporarily and the taskbar comes back to normal, but once I leave the computer again for a while it disappears again..
Can someone suggest a permanent fix?
& no, my computer does not sleep. The only power saving setting currently set is for the monitor to shut off after 20mins
Did you use a genuine installation DVD or did you download one (using your own legit serial obviously)? If you burned the DVD yourself, try re installing with a DVD burned at max 4 speed. Installations corrupt on many occasions when the OS DVD/CD is burned to fast.
