Director: Werner Herzog Release Date: 11 September 2009 Rated: R Runtime: 122 min The search doesn't work as always... But the new look is nifty... Review: Nicolas Cage is one of the greatest actors of our time. For every couple of crappy movies there is a golden masterpiece. His over the top acting, crazy antics, and unforgettable characters. He puts forth everything he can into a role. I can proudly say that Nicolas Cage is my number one favorite actor. So if this review seems bias I apologize, but not really. “He should always be up there. He's daring and fearless in his choice of roles, and unafraid to crawl out on a limb...” -Roger Ebert In Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans he plays a Lieutenant named Terrence McDonagh. A drug addict with unbelievable unreasonable insane traits. From cocaine to weed, to prescription pills he is indeed a man with some bad karma. In which for Cage is a perfect role. (I'm not saying Cage does drugs he's just acts crazy in general) When watching you can feel the depth of the character by when he talks. Most of his dialogue he is stuttering, flaky, and awkward at times. When he consumes the drugs his whole personality changes. You can tell his uneasiness when acting. The other characters notice but I assume they just say, “That's just lieutenant McDanagh. He he.” Even I feel uneasy watching him. Spoiler:(but I think really sells the movie) To really define a moment in the movie that stuck in my head. McDonagh (Cage) was patrolling the streets when he found a couple lingering by. He stopped them and proceed to question the woman for drugs of any sort. She offered him crack and he gladly began to inhale it through her mouth. (Its called a shotgun if you don't smoke) They begin making out, than started making “love”. Her boyfriend I presume stands in remorse. He begins to walk away when Cage shoots his gun into the air demanding him to watch. As the scene unfolds I think to myself, “omg wtf.” If this doesn't reel you in, I'm not sure what will. End of Spoiler Even though he is a drug addict he does his job. And he does his job well, “like a boss.” His girlfriend Frankie Donnenfeld played by Eva Mendas, supports his role by showing the good side of him. He protects and supports her. (Even though he supports her drug habit it's still thoughtful) “Hell is paved with good intentions right?” -That one guy Overall the plot runs smoothly. Towards the middle it begins to slow but picks right up ending somewhat satisfying. (A sequel maybe...no) The cinematography is great. There are scenes which I can't explain but are still a joy to watch. The music I didn't really notice. For this movie I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing, so I say it was nice. Scratch that. There are these weird scenes which are random at most. The music in those thirty second whatever you call it fit well enough to give the movie an extra spark. My favorite quote of the movie: “What are these f#*king iguanas doing on the table?” “There aint no iguanas..” Tl;dr Bad Lieutenant is a damn fine movie. If you enjoy Nicolas Cage you will defiantly enjoy this film. If your not really into Cage and not interested in dramas than I say pass, but don't overlook it. 10 out of 10 rating: 8.8/10 This is my first review and I hope you ladys/gents enjoy it. I hope this comes a regular thing for me, for I am trying to become a critic or a writer at least. And for shameless promotion http://everybodysafuckingcritic.wordpress.com/ If you have a movie blog please message me, I would like to view it for some inspiration.
Was fucking hilarious. Love him or hate him, Cage IS talented, he's just made some (often cringe-ingly) bad decisions along his career. But films like this showcase the real Nic Cage.
Nicolas Cage has one of the greatest actors of our time.
Well I wish he would reveal it.
Matchstick men was also one of his masterpiece.
Lol typo but thanks for noticing. I edited it.
I love Cage because of Con Air and so I WILL watch this film
Op spoiler tags are [sp][/sp]
Everytime I watch a movie with NC in it, I can't help to cringe. Some of his movies are good, but the majority are shit and this is one of the shit ones.
I loved New Orleans, I spent a week there not long ago, a tip for the wise: Don't go down Bourbon Street unless you want to get drunk, raped, and have your head slammed against one of the hundreds of porn posters.
Jesus christ the Iguanas scene was one of the best things I have ever seen:
