• Is it possible to be logged onto two Steam clients on the same computer?

As in, Is it possible to be logged onto two different Steam accounts at the same time, and with both of them being able to chat with the different friends those two accounts have? It would be great to be able to do this SAFELY, as in, I don't want any Steam accounts banned for "hacking". Also: 1 - This is for a friend of mine which happens to be in a situation where he needs to be able to do this. 2 - Steam client #1 must be fully functional, as in, able to buy and play games normally. 3 - Steam client #2 doesn't need more than the chat, as it won't be used to play games. (Could any third party software do this?) So, uh, I felt like this was the best place to ask.
Why don't you just add the friends from the first account to the second?
Why don't you just add the friends from the first account to the second?
I expected that question. But that isn't really a possibility in our case, which is why we need this. I don't want to go into detail why it is like this, as it's rather personal. But the point is that we can't do that.
You might be able to use Vapor for the chat only client, I'm pretty sure it will work.
If the second client only needs chat, Vapor should be able to do that. Ninjas everywhere :ninja:
You might be able to use Vapor for the chat only client, I'm pretty sure it will work.
I'm not able to find a working download link in the Vapor thread.
Dude's doing some sort of prank/whatever on someone, that's why he doesn't want to tell why he needs this. Vapor should work fine. [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] Download link's below the Youtube video, in the box.

[editline]o[/editline]
Download link's below the Youtube video, in the box.
Yeah, but it doesn't work.
If you can't get Vapor to download, I have the latest version on my netbook I could zip up and send you.
If you can't get Vapor to download, I have the latest version on my netbook I could zip up and send you.
That'd be great! :buddy: Just upload it to something like Filesmelt
Use Sandboxie Create another steam folder in program files and run the exe in there through sandboxie [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] Vapor displays your status as "Offline" even when you're online so it isn't great for pretending not to be you
Oh, I'll get him to try that Kind of concerned that It might not run very well alongside a game on his school-issued laptop. [editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
Vapor displays your status as "Offline" even when you're online
Wait, you can't message someone who appears to be offline on Steam, so how would that program even work at all? [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] I've obtained a copy of Vapor (Thanks to SuperDuperScoot) and we're testing that now.

It's a dead giveaway.
I've been using Vapor on my netbook for quite a while and it's always said online for me. I've signed in on it and had people greet me, never complained of me going offline, etc. I don't know what your problem is.
Well, it appears he's getting some error when trying to log onto it. I've told him to disable Steam Guard, and to run the program as administrator, none has worked. I'll continue this thread tomorrow, and post the error message.
I know I'm late, but Vapor is what you're looking for...
Vapor displays your status as "Offline" even when you're online so it isn't great for pretending not to be you
Are you sure? It shouldn't be doing that.
Wait, you can't message someone who appears to be offline on Steam, so how would that program even work at all?
Valve's steam client won't allow you to message someone who is appearing offline, but you can still receive messages from a client that bypasses that restriction. As long as you're physically logged onto your account, you can be sent friend messages, even if you're offline on friends.
I saw you on Steam, VoiDeD. You were "Offline" (the fake offline), were you using Vapor?
Nope.

Oh, appears I was supposed to post here 3 days ago. :v: So, does anyone know what's up with the ErrorGetSalt thing? I can't really make sense of it.
