• Good Christmas build?

Hey Guys. After 11 months of planning, I've finally got confirmation that I'll be able to spend £550 on a new rig for Christmas, being purchased this Friday. I've had some good comments about my component choices from other forums but I thought I would try it here too. So here is the list of parts I'm getting: That comes to about £547 and I get free delivery, how does that look? Some notes: 1. I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, optical drive, case, OS and case fans. Before I'm told I'm missing something. 2. I chose the 4890 over the 5770 because not only is it a bit more powerful but I think I'm better off waiting until the 5850/70 are cheaper and DX11 games are more plentiful and then upgrading. 3. 1TB will be needed, I'm not getting it just because it's a big number (Just bringing that up because I keep getting "Do you really need 1TB?" 4. I can't go over budget at all, I'm strictly limited to £550 5. I will be buying from www.novatech.com So basically, I just need reassuring that the parts chosen will serve me well for a good few years. Thanks in advance.
You can grab a 500w/550w power supply if you want to save some money. [editline]10:01PM[/editline] Also that board is m-atx make sure your case supports that.
buffalo fire stix ... is that some unheard brand of RAM or something?

Find another motherboard and go with the i5 750 instead.
Find another motherboard and go with the i5 750 instead.
I considered the i5 but I decided against it. I've had a lot of trouble with Intel products in the past.
The i5 is much faster than that processor, I just ordered my build centered around an i5 and a Asus mobo that will run very nicely. [editline]05:06PM[/editline] 97% over 4 stars
I just checked the price of the i5 and it's over £30 more than the CPU I chose. I can't go any higher in price at all, never mind £30.
You'll regret buying a phenom over an i5
You'll regret buying a phenom over an i5
It's taken me a whole year to save for this build and it'll be 6 months before I get any more money. I can't be stuck waiting even longer to get a part that I don't really want from a company I've had issues with. Chances are I'll be happy with anything better than this shitty Core 2 Duo that constantly acts up.
I think overall you would be better off with this build: And then just find a cheap wireless adapter for you. [editline]05:28PM[/editline] It is amazing that the Euro doesn't go much farther considering it is worth so much more than the dollar. [editline]05:29PM[/editline] Oh 540 is the total btw.
The Phenom will fit him fine, and he'll get 4GBs over 2GBs with his AMD build. He just doesn't quite have the budget for an i5 build.

Really.
Just to prove that intel doesn't make crappy stuff.
It is amazing that the Euro doesn't go much farther considering it is worth so much more than the dollar.
I don't see no fuckin' your-ohs, mate and it's probably because of VAT
Just to prove that intel doesn't make crappy stuff.
I didn't say they made crappy stuff, I'm just saying that I have never had an Intel product that has lasted more than a few months and I want to try a different company's products. It's nothing about company favoritism.
Just to prove that intel doesn't make crappy stuff.
Don't use a reviewer, use Tweaktown.com, or Tomshardware, or Anandtech. Something reliable. You never know who's posting a review on a product.
It's nothing about company favoritism.
if it wasn't then you'd ignore everything else and go by price/performance, in which case you'd go for the i5
if it wasn't then you'd ignore everything else and go by price/performance, in which case you'd go for the i5
I'm basing my decision on the fact that I have never had a good Intel product and I want to try AMD for once on my life. I think after about 5 years of faulty Intel products I deserve the right to be able to try something different. EDIT: How did I even get into this. I just asked if everything would be compatible, not if company A is better than company B...
Your saying you are going to be stuck with this computer for the next couple years, I would have just thought you would have wanted the best for your money. and fyi you didn't ask if it was compatible, you asked if it would serve you good for a few years. Edit: After having a Phenom I for the last year and a half I would never go with AMD again until they do some serious performance increases in their processors.
Well if that's the case then either build will serve him well for a few years.

But anyway, if I decide I want to go back to Intel I can always just upgrade next time I have a good amount of money, which will be quite a long time considering I get paid only twice every year (Not big payments either). If the build I posted will work well and not give me any problems while building/using, it's all I'll need. At the current moment I'm stuck with something that can barely run HL2 so if this build works I'll be a lot better off. EDIT: And my typing seems to be a bit fucked up...I think I'm gonna get some sleep.
