Every few weeks or months i help a friend buy parts and then build it. So far i have used my 64bit vista home premium on my computer, and two others just because it's so fucking expensive and ruins all budget builds if you buy it. How many more computers can i install it on before it wont let me? I've tried google but the the answers varry. The reason i ask is because in a few hours i'm going to be going to a warehouse store with a friend and helping him pick parts then i was hoping to use my vista disc.
3 as far as I know.
You're only supposed to install it on 1 PC at a time per license.
You're already breaking your license agreement.
1. You're only allowed to use a key on one machine, if they have their own key then it's fine to just use the disc, but they need their own key.
Why not buy those triple-license packs? That way you won't screw your friends over if MS ever figures it out.
I don't really care too much about the lisence agreement, but will my disc stop working if i use it 4 times?
You would end up having to call MS and tell them you don't have it on any other machines and they will give you a activation number.
I thought retail allowed 3 installations?
I think you guys are talking about OEM.

The disk will still work, but your license key won't. Any of the methods of getting around the automatic "disabler" would be illegal. That's why they require you to have a key within 30 days.
I would expect that they would pick up on several different computers using the same key...but I guess you have been lucky so far.
Use the register by phone thing, you can have as many installations as you want.
Wow, I thought you could only use it once...
Microsoft don't care as long as the codes are coming from the same IP so having it installed on more then 1 PC on the same IP would be fine.
I installed a OEM 2 times with no problems and the third time I called the over the phone activation (automated). So killed three birds with one licence.
you can use it on as many computers as you want, but microsoft don't like it, but you can, you can even activate over phone several times to, just tell you had to reinstall or something

No, doesn't work like that

No, retail is the same. One installation per license.
so if your installing the os on your personal computers they don't really care?
It works like this
You can install the software an unlimited amount of times but you can online activate it 4 times
After that you call microsoft up to get a activation key and you can do so up to 21 times

And yes, i've had to format vista that many times :frogbon:
When this install breaks it's back to XP because i cannot activate any more

Ah ok.
I've heard that if you don't need to reactivate for 120 days then they clear your activation record (i.e. you don't have to call or w/e), do you know if that's true or not?
[editline]10:22PM[/editline]
Judging by your edit, I guess not :aaa:
[editline]10:24PM[/editline]
Man, you must have done a lot of upgrading to reactivate that many times.

I think so
It happend with my old XP key, and it seemed that i could activate, but only via phone as previously i was unable to activate
I install mine on as many PCs as I want, fuck the EULA.
