So I got a new video card a few months back, and recently I reinstalled Crysis to see what it could do with it. Everything i've read online says that 2.2 gb RAM and a 4870 should be able to max it out with acceptable frame rate, but i'm seeing the opposite- my 2.2 GB RAM and 4870 is barely able to play the game on lowest settings, no AA, power supply fine, and 800x600 resolution.
Any ideas about what could be going on?
full specs?
do you have drivers installed?

Can't imagine I'd need to put anything more....anything noticeable?
The only things I can think of are:
1:What is your PSU wattage (I don't think this really would effect it like that though)
2:Is the cable plugged into the video card and not the onboard? (it's happened)
PSU was bought at the same time as the card to make sure that I had the needed supply, so I don't think that's the problem. And for the second, i'm guessing that would negatively affect the performance of other games as well. Don't know how good of an example this is, but I got the card at about the time E:TW came out, and most of my games have worked fine with top level graphics, even the latest ones like N:TW, BC2, etc.
If that could still be a problem I could check, but til then I've been told it's probably a RAM problem. Any chance another 2 gb of RAM would help the situation or would it still be more than should be necessary?
what are your temps while playing?
No idea, how can I check?

And when was the last time you cleaned heatsinks and reinstalled the os? 2,2gb ram?
Never cleaned anything and never reinstalled the OS. Any downsides to doing either of these? I wouldn't mind taking a while to reinstall Vista or anything as long as I didn't lose everything I have on there in the process.
And i'm not sure what you mean about the RAM.

Oh hi.
There's your problem. Crysis is CPU Intensive too.
Uhm, the E6600 should run it fine. I ran Crysis on High with an 8800GTS and an E6400, no problems.
It's probably a problem with the PSU ( pci-e x16 cable not plugged in ) or a driver problem. Your ATI drivers also seem to be old, as it says version 8.xx while they're on 9.xx now

no it isn't that will do crysis fine on high
OP google ati 10.4 drivers
download them

and i thought that when the cable was not plugged in it would not boot and BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP until you turned the PC off.
I just updated my drivers a few days ago, but i'll check for 10.4 again. And wouldn't a disconnected PSU cause problems with other games in the year or so that it would've been disconnected?
Also, just found out that my drivers are fully up to date. Searched for 10.4 and downloaded the suite that was listed under it and it installed the drivers I already have. Not entirely sure what's going on.

10.5 beta?

Did you previously have a Nvidia card?
Yes, I did. Used to have an Nvidia 7800 before I got this one. This card runs most of the things I can think about much better, but now that I think about it, not quite as well as it should be. Most of my friends with similiar cards tell me they get outstanding performance in stuff like ArmA 2 even with the highest possible settings, whereas i'm also struggling to play on regular settings in that as well.
Something's gotta be up, and i'm really hopin to figure this out so I can get what I paid for from this thing.
Wait, is that the x2 card?
The x2 card? No idea what that means. And just looking at my temp, i'm getting 72 C at the moment while playing ArmA 2.
After looking, I think it might be the x2 card you're talking about. Can't find the box I got it in so I can't be sure but I can't find any 4870 OTHER than the x2 one sooo I guess that's it.

Use driversweeper to get rid of all traces of the previous Nvidia drivers. The same thing happened to me when I switched from a 9800gt to an HD4870, (Which, by the way, you probably don't have the X2 one. You would know, it is a fucking monster. Also, it's no longer sold. Another fun fact: it cost[ed?] a balls load.) until I swept the Nvidia drivers away. If all else fails, try using this utility:

Let us know what happens! Remove all drivers (ATI and Nvidia), then reinstall the ATI.
Before you posted that, I used Device Manager to uninstall my Nvidia drivers, then restarted etc, and still not much better performance.
I'll try this though, is there anything I should be worried about before uninstalling my ATI drivers though?

no, your cpu will just render everything until you get the ati drivers installed again

I have an E4600 and run Crysis fine. It's the same clock and has a lower amount of L2 cache.
Reinstalled drivers, wiped everything etc, nothing really changed. Hnnng. Gonna update my BIOS in a bit, any chance that'd help?
Updating your bios wouldn't really help
Well neither would anything anyone else has suggested so far so why not unless you have a better idea. :<
