Sinking Ship Simulator From FP's Own Programming Section Sinks
What happens when a crowd-funding campaign for an in-development video game promises features that are unlikely to ever materialise?
And what if the creator of the video game didn't want the crowd-funding campaign in the first place?
In the case of Sinking Simulator, an eye-catching 2D physics sandbox game that lets you create a structure before sinking it, the crowd-funding campaign was cancelled - and the brains behind it sacked from the project.
Sinking Simulator is the work of student Luke Wren, but its Indiegogo and Steam Greenlight campaigns were the work of one Francis Racicot, aka Pac0master, a French-Canadian living in Quebec.
It was Racicot who commissioned Wren to create Sinking Simulator. The Indiegogo campaign, which Racicot launched to raise money to pay Wren for development duties, asked for just $500. It had raised over $4500 before it was shut down.
A link to the thread itself (and a quick recap by Dark Veger, it's a bit out of date though)
For those of you who are too lazy to read the article or Veger's post, Pac0master went into the Programming forum with a request for a simple physics simulation toy, R0b0tsquid is incredibly nice and offers to make it for a small fee, Pac ends up throwing up an indiegogo and offering a bunch of random features without consulting Robot, Robot gets pissed and they're still dealing with the aftermath. Basically, it's what happens when you actually listen to an ideas guy.
Racicot has refunded "almost everyone" who donated over $10, he claims, but those who donated less have been left out in the cold.
Kinda sucks, I always found it weird for Indiegogo to take your money before the project gets funded.
And the band played on as she went down.

Or at least us onlookers laughed our asses off as that thread descended into ridiculousness. I'm glad Robot got Paco out of there anyway and is working on it on his own terms now.
terrorist simulator 2014 is better than this filth
oh jesus i know pac0master, he always posted horribly in the mapping section
r0b0tsquid, what are you doing :(
I was trying to get everything back to normal.
i cant believe i just noticed this thread now, this is hilarious
Would Pac get banned for something like this?
This whole thing has been exciting but it's getting close to being resolved
this is why you should never help an ideas guy
indiegogo is so shit
Is pac0 12 or something?
Been following this since the indiegogo got put up in the thread. If you can read through that whole thread without sighing several times at pac0's actions you deserve an award.
r0b0tsquid deserves a medal for being the chillest motherfucker ever
Can someone post the thread?
Can someone post the thread?
It's in the OP
I saw this thread in the programming section a bit ago and thought it was pretty neat.
No forecaster ever could have seen this shitstorm coming.

I wrote a tl;dr. Its quite long
Actually a fascinating story. I just can't believe I missed out on it.
I actually saw the inception of the thread. Thought the thing was a neat idea, could be interesting. Holy shit, I mean, I know facepunch hates image macros and all, but that really did escalate quickly to a giant clusterfuck.
