I've never been to school. My parents never even home schooled me, I was simply put in front of computer and I've had to learn everything myself my entire life. I learned to read and write by basically playing runescape and other video games, even though, my grammar isn't much to talk about.
Ever since I was born I've been almost completely socially isolated. I've never had any friends (excluding a few I met online.) You can imagine how depressed I am sometimes.
Now I'm 18. I picked up playing guitar a year and a few months ago. I've been trying to make it my life goal to be good at just one thing and I'm hoping that is it. I also want to go to college sometime in the future, but, as I have never been to school or anything like that so does that mean I can't get in because I don't have gcses or whatever? I don't even know what they are. If so, is there some way I can take them? how long will it take? will I be 30 at the end of this?
Thank you!

Also a side note; I want to go to college for music and to meet some people, as I've never really had any friends.
you should get your parents incarcerated for child abuse
seriously

no, that solves nothing at this point.
no, that solves nothing at this point.
on the contrary, you'd be moved somewhere where your guardians would actually care about you and would assist in getting you an education
as I've never really had any friends.
But you'll always have us.
Also, I'm sure there's those tests for people who never finished (or started) schooling to prove they're intelligent enough to enter unis. I just can't remember their name, or whether or not someone in your situation can apply.
Holy christ, your grammar is even better than mine. And I was schooled.
on the contrary, you'd be moved somewhere where your guardians would actually care about you and would assist in getting you an education
My parents are all I have, I can't just put them in jail. I wouldn't know what I'd do without them. They are trying to help me get into college.
How are you socially isolated? They don't let you out of the house? Because if you can go to the store, you can at least meet some people there.

well when you say in your opening post that they never sent you to school or attempted to homeschool, we assume that they don't intend on helping you get an education
i seriously hope you've blasted them about ruining your life, as you're pretty much unemployable for any decent job/will have a hard time getting into any university
nothing else to say then, they shouldn't started helping you get into college 13 years ago by sending you to kindergarten

I'm not socially isolated like that, I've never been forced to stay inside the house. But I do it anyway, because the closest store is over 2 miles away.
I live on a farm.

They are the kind of people that are into hippy bullshit like being kept away from school to be safe from schools "indoctrination" and I have talked to them about it, they went into tears and are now trying to help me.
Holy shit OP, your parents are awful. Seriously, go tell the police or something what they did. You'll get an education.
If your parents are into the "hippy bullshit" as you said, there's something majorly wrong with them. Go to your closest store, tell them about your situation. The cashier can call up the police and they can drive you to the precinct for you to explain what's going on.
So, through your 18 years you never thought, Hey why don't I go to school like all the kids I meet online?

What about neighbours? You have any? Or at least some person outside your family? Did you ever meet someone in real life? It's quite different meeting a person in real life than on the internet.
So, through your 18 years you never thought, Hey why don't I go to school like all the kids I meet online?
I have thought about it, I've thought about it for years. But, I don't know what to do. I don't even know what school is like. I have no idea how to get into school nor do I have the means. At the moment, at least.
I don't want to punish my parents, they are all I have period. I'm determined to find a way out of this.
If I retook, or, just took gcses at the moment, how long would it take? would I be 30 at the end of it or 20?

My neighbour consists of a 60 year old farmer and a 9 year old girl, and of course I've been out to shops and met people, but that doesn't mean I've had any real friends.

try for some kind of online education, that's your best bet since you're on a farm
but seriously, jesus christ. i hope they realise that they have LITERALLY ruined their only (?) child's life by not allowing you to undergo any kind of education. fucking hell it's actually so horrible
also as another poster said, wouldn't it have been odd when the people you met online went to school? i legit feel really sorry for you

there would be some kind of 2 year course or something that'd get you the basics of whatever you'd want to do, that or you'd go to a private college (idk what they're called in the UK) where it's easier to get in
But you'll always have us.

You can't have one but not the other. The moment you ask someone about taking your GCSEs, they'll ask why now and why there's no records of you being in school.

I've known that other people went to school my entire life, but as you know a child is completely ignorant and dependant on their parents. My parents just kept telling me school "indoctrinates" children into society and I was going to be better than them? I realised at 16 my life is a shitfest and I need to get it sorted.
To be fair, I was in a similar albeit milder situation in the past. I managed to do some degree of self-education for about 2 and a half years between the age of 12 and 15. Abuse at secondary school was getting to be too much since the faculty at Greenshaw had it's thumb up it's arse, and my parents managed to get me out of the curriculum, which eventually led to me getting big into the internet since I was just sitting around at home with the computer and telly all day.
I did however manage to get GCSEs at one of those small independent education centres, the Draper's Centre I believe it was called, out near the old Saint Mary's Hospital. I dunno if it's still running, but it was a pretty good place to get me back up to speed. I was even able to craft my footstool as part of my D&T module; that ol' thing's served me well all these years.
But back onto track, I think if you search around for places that do GCSEs in your area, you might find something that'll help you get into the educational stream of things and get you your qualifications. Here's hoping you manage to get what you need for academia.
Edit:
Huh, I didn't think you were a rural lad; what part of the Isles do you call home? Also the whole thing with your parents keeping you outta school because of their beliefs of "indoctrination" is deeply concerning; being a free spirit isn't always bad, but not having an education or social interaction because of it is very rarely good. We all need to make our connections and relationships in life so we have a web to support us, for no one man/woman is powerful enough to fall without a safety net.
I'm pretty sure in the UK it's a crime not to enter your child in to proper education. It you want to get any further in life, your parents are probably going to have to pay for their actions. It's fucking stupid to screw over your kid like that.
You can't have one but not the other. The moment you ask someone about taking your GCSEs, they'll ask why now and why there's no records of you being in school.
It's not illegal to be home schooled in the uk, so, even though I've never really been home schooled, by definition, I can still tell people I was.
OP, your parents ruined your childhood. There's nothing to thank them for, aside from feeding you.
Having a good education is the most important part of your life if you want to have a house, food, girlfriend, job, so forth.
Do NOT stick with your parents anymore. They don't have a grasp on reality if they live out in a farm and never go out to socialize. Lead your own life OP, don't let them choose it for you. You sound like you're extremely smart, don't let it go to waste.

What was your parents reasoning for never sending you to school? I guess the best thing to do would be to take like a high school equivalency test or whatever it's equivalent is in Britain and go from there, depending on how good you do on it, plan what classes you have to take to get up to the education level that other 18 year olds have. To be honest, your probably not going to college though. At least not right away.
The best way of doing this would be walking into the high school closest to you and telling them your situation. They'll probably sit you down with counselors and other officials to figure out the best course of action to help you succeed.
Well, I've been to school more than half of my life and college is hard for me, since you need some knowledge from before. School isn't just about talking to people in your language, there's also mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, History and more. But if your goal is to meet people, get some friends and learn music, then go for it. But if you want to study and finish school, you should probably go to some high school, not College.

luckily it's not the end, as a lot of other posters have said you can still like get an education somewhere, like fast track etc etc
Also, do you know why your parents never enrolled you at any schools when you were young?
Schools indoctrinate you. - my parents 1995-2013
Schools indoctrinate you. - my parents 1995-2013
Isn't then telling you that a form of indoctrination by itself? Maybe I'm just being silly but still
My parents aren't all that bad, really ... well ok they are bad, but, they have money and they pretty much spoil me. They are my best chance at getting into college or anything of the like.

That's easier said than done. How can he leave their parents if he doesn't know anyone and doesn't have a proper education? Also, he probably loves them and it's not that easy to leave someone you love.
Isn't then telling you that a form of indoctrination by itself? Maybe I'm just being silly but still
Well, by definition, I'm pretty sure indoctrination is just every form of education ever.
