Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, the leading two Republican candidates in a field of three, have suggested they would use waterboarding and other controversial “enhanced interrogation techniques” against terror suspects. Cruz has said he does not consider waterboarding to be torture, and would “use whatever enhanced interrogation methods we could to keep this country safe”. In the aftermath of the Brussels bombings last month, Trump told NBC: “If they could expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding. You have to get the information from people.”
What's to prevent Trump or Cruz from replacing him with someone who would? [editline]11th April 2016[/editline]
Cruz has said he does not consider waterboarding to be torture,
Well you can just go fuck off, you aren't the decider in what's torture and what isn't.
What's to prevent Trump or Cruz from replacing him with someone who would?
Any successor would have to be confirmed by the Senate, whose Intelligence Committee just did that huge report saying that torture is shit and doesn't work, so they could be a problem (depending on who is in the Senate at that point)
Oh I can just imagine how Trump would react to the Senate not giving in to his appointments...
It'd be about the same as Trump reacting to the house for not giving him the 1Tn$ needed to build his wall and kick out all the mekans
Why would anyone believe the CIA Chief lol. When has the CIA ever been genuine? Guy probably gives the go ahead on worse torture than waterboarding honestly.
Why would anyone believe the CIA Chief lol. When has the CIA ever been genuine? Guy probably gives the go ahead on worse torture than waterboarding honestly.
Lol someone believes torture provides reliable information on a regular basis.
Oh I can just imagine how Trump would react to the Senate not giving in to his appointments...
"It's like medieval times over there. ISIS is going around chopping off people's heads and what do we do about it? You've got these choke artists, real YUGE choke artists in Congress who won't let me waterboard them. They're protecting the terrorists! Can you believe it? These are not good people, folks." Sprinkle airhorn sounds where desired.
Man I've run into too many idiots who think they're purposely saying torture doesn't work to "placate" the public about torture. Fucking hell we need to invest in education more.
Regardless of how viable torture is, the CIA is grandstanding and has no place to talk. They subvert US policy around the globe on a daily basis.
Cruz has said he does not consider waterboarding to be torture
Then what the fuck is it???
Gotta love the mental gymnastics involved in explaining why those lying scumbag spooks are trying to avoid torturing people.
Regardless of how viable torture is, the CIA is grandstanding and has no place to talk. They subvert US policy around the globe on a daily basis.
Any effort to become more transparent and more accountable to the US public ought to be encouraged. This is a good thing.
Fucking hell we need to invest in education more.
While I agree we need to do this, I fail to see how math problems and shop classes are going to prevent backwards thinking. Cruz and Trump have had world class educations far better than the two of us could ever dream of getting, they're proof positive that education does not mean sophistication or civilization. They're just really smart lunatics.

And just because you've gotten an great education doesn't mean you actually learned anything, in this day and age that education can be bought as well.
Then what the fuck is it???
Enhanced interrogation
Can't wait for him to hear "YOU'RE FIRED!" In walks Ben Carson for his promised job.
Yeah because I'm talking about that? And just because you've gotten an great education doesn't mean you actually learned anything, in this day and age that education can be bought as well.
Cruz is considered one of the best debaters in the country. Debates require some pretty decent degree of logical thinking. It's unfair to say Cruz isn't a smart, or educated man. He is. That's the fucking problem. Educated people can hold fucking crazy opinions.
Then what the fuck is it???
Saturday night at the Cruz residence.
Then what the fuck is it???
gurgle struggle
I think if Cruz thinks waterboarding is no big deal (ie, not classifiable as torture) then he should have no problem getting waterboarded himself. It's torture; end of discussion.
I think if Cruz thinks waterboarding is no big deal (ie, not classifiable as torture) then he should have no problem getting waterboarded himself. It's torture; end of discussion.
That's a ridiculously stupid statement. 'If Cruz thinks imprisonment is no big deal (ie, not classifiable as torture), then he should have no problem getting imprisoned himself'
I wonder how Trump and Cruz would like waterboarding after being waterboarded themselves
you don't have to be smart to be a great debater, you just have to want to prove your point more than the other team
Cruz is very smart, possibly one of the smartest presidential candidates ever. Clever people can have stupid ideas. You don't get into Harvard Law School(?) then work on the Supreme Court from being a stupid guy.

It's unfair to say Cruz isn't a smart, or educated man. He is. That's the fucking problem. Educated people can hold fucking crazy opinions.
Yeah. A lot of people think that someone being educated equals someone being a good leader. While, in my opinion, an educated person has more qualification to be in a governing position, it's only the case if his position is relevant to his education. Someone being a doctor is great if he's gonna be the Health Minister. Someone being a doctor is not relevant is he's gonna be, say, Secretary of State. Maybe he'd do a good job, maybe not, but his education in this case is not relevant. At least most of the time - perhaps sometimes an education carries with it qualities that would make him serve his office well, but it's usually not measurable enough to be taken into account.
you don't have to be smart to be a great debater, you just have to want to prove your point more than the other team
People need to stop dismissing Cruz as an idiot. The man is clever, dangerously so, and he's a bad person. Bad people can be intelligent and we need to realize this. He's a capable monster. Don't underestimate him or else you'll end up actually dealing with him.
'I wonder how Trump and Cruz would like imprisonment after being imprisoned themselves' [editline]11th April 2016[/editline] I should probably clarify I'm not defending their positions
I truly think being waterboarded is one of those things you have to experience to know how awful it is. Because looking at it, it may not seem like a big deal but it is one of those cases where it is WAY WAY worse than it actually looks. disclaimer: i've never been waterboarded but similar things can happen on accident if u have a towel in the pool. nowhere near tho, but still uncomfortable
That's a ridiculously stupid statement. 'If Cruz thinks imprisonment is no big deal (ie, not classifiable as torture), then he should have no problem getting imprisoned himself'
Imprisonment is a perfectly humane way to deal out capital punishment for a crime. I'm sure Trump or Cruz would be fine being imprisoned but I doubt they would be fine being waterboarded. Same with being force fed through rectal tubes, being sexually humiliated, forcibly sleep deprived, or had threats of physical violence to their children/families. Why would waterboarding be an exception? You can literally die from it if the person doing it to you is inexperienced. I believe the United States needs to set a precedence to the world that torture like this is wrong.
