America won wars against multiple industrial and military super powers. The first being the British Empire. The most recent being Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and to some extent, the Soviet Union. Yet we fail in wars like the Korean War and then get bogged down in endless quagmires like Vietnam, Gulf War II, and Afghanistan.
It could be argued that we won Gulf War II and Afghanistan. But I think protracted military engagements that don't achieve well defined political goals (if there are any) don't count as victories to me. Just seems like exertion and waste of power.
If we could so soundly defeat the Nazis and Japs, then why do we have such a hard time with all these modern wars?
The war has changed.

War, war never changes.
