GeForce Experience is also better (IMO) than AMD's Gaming Evolved app Even with how GFE was fucked up with the new version anything beats gaming evolved (Which isnt bundled with drivers anymore)
GeForce Experience is also better (IMO) than AMD's Gaming Evolved app Even with how GFE was fucked up with the new version anything beats gaming evolved (Which isnt bundled with drivers anymore)
Neither are very good programs though and I wouldn't recommend installing them unless you really want the features.
Neither are very good programs though and I wouldn't recommend installing them unless you really want the features.
Shadowplay(now known as share for some dumb reason) is pretty great.
Shadowplay(now known as share for some dumb reason) is pretty great.
Yes, but for just straight recording there are options just as good that don't come with the issues.
I haven't encountered any issues with the new GFE but I guess I am just lucky in that regard
Yes, but for just straight recording there are options just as good that don't come with the issues.
are there any alternatives to shadowplay? specifically the ghost recording feature. that's literally all i use GFE for, and if there's something better, i'll gladly switch.
Yes, but for just straight recording there are options just as good that don't come with the issues.
I love Shadowplay purely as a safety net. I'm not the type of person to record everything I do so if something funny happens I can just capture it.
are there any alternatives to shadowplay? specifically the ghost recording feature. that's literally all i use GFE for, and if there's something better, i'll gladly switch.
OBS can be set to use the NVENC encoder (what shadowplay uses), and can also do the ghost recording. In OBS it is known as the Replay Buffer. You have to get OBS Classic, not OBS Studio. Studio is their rewrite of the project, but it doesn't have all the features that Classic has yet.

For example you have to manually start the replay recording everytime you boot into windows, also the sharing options in shadowplay are way simpler and easier to use as it's just "chose the beginning for the clip, alright now the end, done? cool now log into your youtube and you're done." [editline]17th September 2016[/editline] But then there's that one small chance that shadowplay just doesn't work for you, like for example a friend of mine has a laptop with an 800 series nvidia gpu and shadowplay just won't start recording for him half the time which forces him to restart his laptop. Freshly installed win10 btw.
are there any alternatives to shadowplay? specifically the ghost recording feature. that's literally all i use GFE for, and if there's something better, i'll gladly switch.
There really aren't options as good as it. OBS can do the same kind of recording, but doesn't really come with the same convenience imo.
I used OBS instead because, as Plaster mentioned, sometimes Shadowplay would fuck up. Most of the time, for me. I don't think it liked my tri-monitor setup.
Even simpler idiot's guide to buying a graphics card: 1: Is it nVidia? If Y, goto 2. 2: Can you afford it? If Y, buy. Done. Shame to say it but that's all there is to it these days.
Neither are very good programs though and I wouldn't recommend installing them unless you really want the features.
INdeed, I use strictly the driver download for my card.
idiots guide to x typically means a guide written for idiots, not a guide written by an idiot
IT's a good thing I'm not one, then. AMD hasn't had a truly competitive card in ages. You can choose, do you want the same price or the same performance, but not both, and the drivers have been subpar going back to the old ATI days. I've had plenty of cards from both brands and consistently for over a decade I've gotten less trouble out of nVidia's offerings. But, no, feel free to drop random zingers and lame insults, that's the way of Facepunch.
idiots guide to x typically means a guide written for idiots, not a guide written by an idiot
Unless you're on a super tight budget then there has been little reason to go AMD for years.

True, while the 980Ti has a general 20-30fps lead over Fury X in gaming benchmarks, the Fury X also takes the lead in a handful of games as well. DX12 is also coming which will only improve AMD's standings since NVidia doesn't take full support for Async shaders. Fury X is $550 CAD compared to 980Ti being ~$900 CAD. Enjoy your extra maybe 25fps in games for 350 more dollars :vs:

Not exactly ages ago and AMD drivers have been fine for a while now. Actually learn what you're talking about before you spout shit off. [editline]18th September 2016[/editline] And if we want to go further back than not just last gen we can look at the 290x, which forced nvidia to release the 780ti ahead of schedule and piss off the OG Titan owners because it beat out the 780.

Clearly that's a manufacturing defect and they're supposed to be crap cards. (God, you're worse than AMD fanboys.)
IT's a good thing I'm not one, then. AMD hasn't had a truly competitive card in ages. But, no, feel free to drop random zingers and lame insults, that's the way of Facepunch.
Why do I get the feeling the last AMD card you've touched was either a 6### or a low 7### series card, because everything you just said was a massive pile of wank. AMD drivers, while yes having more cpu overhead are actually really good now since they moved over to crimson and even the last few catalyst drivers before the crimson move were extremely good, nVidia has had more driver problems in the last 4 years compared to AMD who have nailed down their code branches, meanwhile nVidia can't make their minds up and shit out new drivers weekly at times. Next is price to performance, AMD is vastly more cost effective when compared to nVidia, the level of performance you get to the cost is more balanced to the overmarkup that nVidia has been doing lately and don't even get me started on some of the shit they offer, 1080 and the Titan X, both very similar cards yet one is vastly more expensive for no reason other than more cuda core and memory which when compared, does not validate its excessive price tag. Plus if you really want a gaming power card for 4k, you don't even look at nVidia, you'd get a R9 295x2 the PSU killer, if you want raw gaming performance, its older but still shits all over the newer cards in DX12 with only Geamwerks titles crippling it, for pretty obvious reasons, plus you can then brag over having a water loop for your GPU because clearly that's the hot shit for all the kids who have excessive money to blow right. Also another reminder, if you want seriously fast memory, AMD is your only choice in that area because GDDR5X is still nothing compared to HBM (however we'll likely be seeing GDDR5X more in the future as its just overall more cost effective, HBM will likely only be reserved for the top end cards due to the cost).
If someone asked me what to buy these days I'd probably point them towards the 1060 or 1070 based on budget. I don't really know much about the AMD equivalents at the moment, but that's only from lack of research. I used to be a strict AMD guy but when it came to buying my last graphics card the GTX770 was so far ahead in the price/performance area that I had no real choice but to switch. Or basically get robbed.
