Despite its Kickstarter being at just over half its funding goal with four days left, development on Red Ash: The Indelible Legend is greenlit, and not only for PC and PlayStation 4, but for Xbox One, as well.Fuze Entertainment, a Chinese digital entertainment company, has joined Comcept as a partner on the title, and as a backer of sorts.
Source This is...pretty lame, to be quite honest. I'm happy Inafune gets to make a game he wants, but shouldn't he have done this before anything else? The KS could have been made to gauge interest or something along those lines, but now the whole thing just seems like a cheap marketing ploy. Either way, I wish him the best, but this really could have been handled better.

They usually have other sources of funding that provide a lot more than most Kickstarters would. The way a lot of studios have been going about kickstarter has been really dishonest imho and I wish they'd make it clear more often that the KS campaign is not the only form of funding that the studio will receive.
the point of kickstarter is to not have companies back your product
I'll buy it if it doesn't turn out like Mighty No. 9 and they don't fuck up by hiring some terrible PR manager again.
the point of kickstarter is to not have companies back your product
Me too, which is why I'm not a fan of the Shemnue KS.
Oh boy. I've seen some bad things come out of things being payrolled by Chinese companies.
the point of kickstarter is to not have companies back your product
Actually that's where its going these days. It's not a bad model, but it needs to be a little more transparent. The idea is not bad though, having visible proof that your game has a sizable market, If game makers have one huge obsticle to clear for funding its proving that their game can be successful. [editline]29th July 2015[/editline] What companies need to do though is not mislead people, they should state that the kickstarter is for gauging interest first, and only potentially to develop the game
This was the plan from the start. Make a 4 hour prequel and if it sells well get publisher cash for the full length game. Like, this was the plan the whole time.
the point of kickstarter is to not have companies back your product
Well the Kickstarter didn't work, and that little detail didn't seem to matter to the developers of Shenmue.
Well the Kickstarter didn't work, and that little detail didn't seem to matter to the developers of Shenmue.
it still had days left, it could of reached the goal. also i didnt touch the shenmue kickstarter because of that.

Most of the people backing kickstarters do it on the premise that if they dont the game might not be made. What they are doing is basically a bait into preordering, with exclusive stuff and all
Well, extra content at least.
the point of kickstarter is to not have companies back your product
Kickstarter should step in and make a rule, this is not OK.
It got finished off by a Chinese company? RIP.

Damn it I was genuinely hoping it would fail considering how stupidly they handled MN9.

I've seen plenty of Kickstarter projects that were clearly about getting some initial funding so the company can pitch to investors. Maybe Kickstarter was originally supposed to be a platform for people to donate to new ideas that lack 'formal' funding, but it seems to me like increasingly it's a way for companies to advertise their products and secure pre-orders even before development begins.
