Paul Ryan: If Republicans Lose the Senate, Bernie Sanders Wins
• Paul Ryan is famously described as what Republicans think a smart person sounds like. But sometimes the speaker of the House outsmarts himself.
Ryan lectured Young Republicans in his native Wisconsin last Friday, and the national news media were invited to listen along. The speaker wanted to make the case for Republican voters to turn out and back GOP congressional candidates, even if they can’t stomach their party’s scandal-plagued presidential ticket. Implicit in Ryan’s argument was the suggestion that a Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Senate could be counted on to obstruct Hillary Clinton’s supposedly “liberal progressive” agenda.
But in a question-and-answer session following his unremarkable speech, Ryan inadvertently made a case for liberals and progressives to turn out in big numbers in order to elect Democratic candidates in the fight for control of the Senate.
• On the other hand, Ryan warned, “If we lose the Senate, do you know who becomes chair of the Senate Budget Committee? A guy named Bernie Sanders. You ever heard of him?”
• But when word got out that Ryan was rattled by Sanders, the response from around the country was electric. People who might have been having a hard time getting excited about the presidential race were most intrigued by the possibility that Sanders might become a powerhouse in the Senate.
Sounds good to me
And the fact that it looks ever more poised for a Democrat takeover of the Senate, I'm very ecstatic about the results of this election.
Does that actually happen if they lose the senate?
Shit sounds good. Bernie actually wants to pay for the things he wants unlike republicans.
Nice! Now I am even more motivated to vote, thanks for the info Paul Ryan!
thanks paul!
Well, Bernie is most likely too old to run again (and he probably doesn't want to). This is literally the next best thing.
All right, now all we need to do is have the Republicans lose the senate. Shouldn't be too hard, right guys?
Yeah, I may or may not vote for the shill, but I will vote every other thing as democrat.
And I wasn't excited for my upcoming first chance to vote for the Senate before now
And here people were saying that Clinton would just be another 8 years of Obama
538 is showing a pretty Democrat leaning race right now for the Senate.
Go out and vote to make this a reality!

That is me erring on the side of pessimism.
Optimistically: Clinton wins the presidency, Democrats win congress, a lot of the DNC's platform, including concessions to the Bernie camp, reaches legislation.
I've been saying for weeks: the President is only one part of the whole package and if people are disappointed with Hillary they should focus on congress. Sanders had an influence on the campaign. Go make it happen.
And this is why Sanders didn't go independent/turn against the Democrats when it became clear that he was going to lose to Clinton.
Fucking two birds one stone
Thanks for the incentive, Ryan. Not that I was going to refrain from voting to begin with.
Have fun without my vote, Paul Ryan!
I voted for a Democratic Senator because she has a degree in Chemistry. We need more people with hard science background in Congress.
Also the other guy had a poor record of supporting scientific research + horrible social issue stances.
Sanders becoming a major figure in the Senate? Sign me the fuck up.

Go out and make this a reality.
I've gotta ask, how do these people rile the crowds up against "liberal progression"? It's like saying stuff such as the Civil Rights Act were bad ideas.
I figure the fading of the Republican party is more of an inevitability than anything else.
As the younger generations continue to become (and remain) almost exclusively leftists and the older generations continue to die out, I don't doubt a Democrat win of the Senate.
Yes please, i know who i will vote for.

You know, I thought the same thing. How can you be AGAINST liberty or progression? Like, I understand what the positions and mentalities of the far-right/white nationalists/neo-nazis are, but just taking a look at these words at face value it makes no sense whatsoever, the alternatives are stagnation at best and oppression at worst. Hard to see a positive to those.

Change is bad and liberty means them damn dirty X and Y can do Z
Getting the House is also important, although less likely, if we want nothing to stand in the way of progressive legislature. Also, important to come back in 2018 and vote again. Democrats will have a hard time next midterm.
Now to get the house of reps to be democratic too.

(notice how republican presidents are almost always worse than democratic ones lol)
Except for divided congress, just gotta make sure that doesn't happen lol
