Russian economy is entering a crisis. Will face a period of negative expansion.
Russia’s economy is showing signs of a crisis, the government in Moscow said as the U.S. and the European Union announced sanctions over the country’s support for the Crimea region breaking away from Ukraine.
“The situation in the economy bears clear signs of a crisis,” Deputy Economy Minister Sergei Belyakov said in Moscow yesterday. The cabinet needs to refrain from raising the fiscal burden on companies, which would be the “wrong approach,” he said. “Taking money from companies and asking them afterward to modernize production is illogical and strange.”
Even before the worst standoff against the West since the Cold War, Russia’s economy was facing the weakest growth since a 2009 recession as consumer demand failed to make up for sagging investment. EU foreign ministers yesterday agreed to freeze assets and impose visa travel bans on 21 Russian, Crimean and former Ukrainian officials, while U.S. President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on seven Russians.
The Ukrainian crisis is putting a strain on Russia’s $2 trillion economy, which grew 1.3 percent in 2013 after expanding 3.4 percent previous year. Last year’s growth was “insufficient” and the current outlook and government forecasts “can’t satisfy us,” President Vladimir Putin said March 12. The Economy Ministry projects growth will average 2.5 percent a year through 2030.
It's like people forget there's an actual word for it.

Don't know how.
Oh it's meant to be a pun regarding their tendency to expand geographically or something? You can do better, Sobotnik

But Russia isn't entering a recession. That's Western misinformation based on a poor evaluation of Russia. She is merely having her economy going into non-extension.
well fuck
How bad does it make me that I am gleefully happy to buy in-game currency for War Thunder in the Russian store for fraction of the European price as Russian currency is crashing?
I am both hugely underpaying the developer and ever so little helping Russian economy by buying their terrible ruble with my euros :v:
(It's impossible to transfer in the game so I can't make irl profit but I just want some in game money)

Is it still profitable now?

If Russia keeps trying to go for the domination victory, I can't see that happening...

I remember the panic in EU few years ago in winter when there were problems with lack of gas coming from Russia. That is just one example, I am not sure how much EU can afford to fool around with Russia. Heck, imagine Russians stop investing in the Premiere League :v:
Meanwhile in russian media:
Russia is the fastest growing economy in the world! Expected to grow 35% this year and 47% in the next. Surpassing the USA in 2 years.

That's... not how it works.
How's that for a bear market, now :v:
I bet Putin is bad at Crusader Kings II

I'd expect nationalism to rise as a response and international tensions to grow.
Probably because they banned Bitcoins.

Invading Ukraine they put pressure on EU's gas markets which may allow them to drive up prices.
And they may get some collaboration in the eastern part, but for the western part, they would be facing some major problems.
This is no longer the 14 century. Your only means of expanding wealth are no longer conquest (As now land by itself does not mean anything). And by conquering other countries, you will not be using their industries at their full output.
Have you ever played Hearts Of Iron? Well, only if you got Albert Speer in your team -which I doubt Putin has- you can conquer the world and other countries.

Steam took measures against it iirc.

consider all the cd-key websites which make their entire profit off of this? Definitely.
Not only Russia, all the world economies are entering periods of over - production, with exhausted wages, nobody can afford to purchase the products of factories, at the same time, capitalists will lay off more people to cover their losses.
Its a cycle that will lead to a depression, one that won't be solved by a passage of time, but by a critical measure taken, a war, or the expansion into new markets (Africa, India).
The question is, will our societies stay stable long enough for the transition, or will the next decade be that of civil unrest, protests, and riots.
