CHICAGO (AP) — A 3-year-old boy who was among 13 people wounded in a late-night attack on a southwest Chicago park was alert when he arrived at the hospital and was apparently doing well, his family and friends said early Friday.
The attack late Thursday in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood left three victims, including the boy, in critical condition. The others were reportedly in serious or fair condition.
The child's uncle, Julian Harris, told the Chicago Sun-Times that dreadlocked men in a gray sedan shot at him Thursday night before turning toward nearby Cornell Square Park and opening fire. He said his nephew was shot in the cheek.
"They hit the light pole next to me, but I ducked down and ran into the house," Harris said. "They've been coming round here looking for people to shoot every night, just gang-banging stuff. It's what they do."
Such is the life in Chicago.

the least surprising part
if the city disowned two or three god awful neighborhoods from the south side and western fringe, most of the shitty statistics people love to pin on 'Chicago' as a whole would be all but gone

looking at the info in the article, yeah this was right in New City, adjacent to Englewood, Filler Park and Washington Park, worst places to be
Every time a Chicago thread gets posted I want to post that the violence is in the south/southwest end of city limits, but daijitsu gets here first. Thanks dai!

Doesn't detract from the incident at all.

These gangs come from the city though, don't try to act like its that isolated man. Gentrification is to blame for most of this shit.
It's unreal the day and night difference between south chicago and northwest where i live. It's unsettling

I'm not actually suggesting some 'push the problem elsewhere' solution, I'm exemplifying the concentration and the fact that people give a shit about anything more than 'chicago'. The collective city is bigger than all of rhode island, but if you were to ask someone without a map what is 'chicago' they'd probably describe the loop and navy pier, the airport, then tell you that you're guaranteed to get shot if you go there.

entirely true, but if this happened anywhere else it would have been deemed some extreme act of terrorism and there'd be a nationwide outcry, but this is just the news saying "tonight in Chicago something happened again, more at 11"
