British Gas has said it is planning to offer free power on Saturdays to some of its customers.
The idea is to encourage them to use more of their electricity at the weekend when there is less demand from businesses, according to the BBC's industry correspondent John Moylan.
The scheme would be available to its one million UK customers who have smart meters.
British Gas is understood to have already started piloting the scheme.
Mine bitcoins on Saturday?
I can easily see this being abused.
I wonder what the limit will be

1. Buy empty warehouse.
2. Buy enough car batteries to fill whole building.
3. Charge batteries every Sunday.
4. ???
5. Profit
I guess people that produce some of their energy might be exempt? Otherwise they could kinda abuse it, when they sell all the energy they collected that day... Although I'm sure the energy company has thought of all the exceptions we thought of, and there's most definitely a limit.
All those Vietnamese Cannabis grows in London'll be over the moon.
Saturday becomes national "run your supercomputers until the lights dim" day.
If this happens I'm going to charge so many batteries.

Might be wiser to do it on Saturday.
im going to make my own power company that only supports on saturdays
BRB buying that 1500W PSU I saw online.
On a serious note... This wont make a damn bit of difference to me. I've got all the power I need.
only to some people? let me guess it will only be available for the highest shareholders
In other news British Gas have raised their gas and electricity prices again and have also made huge profits this year. Coincidence? I think not.

Probably to a range of customers that don't use electricity so much.
This could cause serious problems if everyone maxes out their power usage on Saturdays, the UK only has a small percentage of headroom left

I'm pretty sure that we actually have to borrow a load of power from France every Corrie advert break because of the sheer number of people who put their kettles on at that time. Not so bad now with iplayer and such, but we used to take an insane amount.
