First Minister Mr Salmond will put the case for Scottish independence and Mr Darling, chairman of Better Together, will argue for the UK to stay together. The two-hour live debate on STV will be broadcast from 20:00 in front of a 350-strong audience from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The people of Scotland will go to the polls on 18 September. They will be asked the "Yes/No" question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" The STV debate will also be live in the south of Scotland by ITV's Border region. Viewers in Scotland, from the rest of the UK, and across the world will be able to watch the debate online with a globally available livestream on the STV Player.
Watch it here, starts two hours from when this thread was posted
ooohhh this should be interesting
Damn I keep forgetting how close the vote is.
I have a niggling feeling Darling is going to get humped. Which is annoying seen as he is representing the No campaign. Salmond knows how to talk.
I want Darling to win just because I think Salmond is an arse
They should bill this as a debate between Sam the Eagle and Jabba the Hutt. I bet more people would tune it. Is there a livestream for people who don't live in Scotland? I want to see Darling finally combat all the Nationalistic drivel which Salmond spouts.
Viewers in Scotland, from the rest of the UK, and across the world will be able to watch the debate online with a globally available livestream on the STV Player
I'd rather not make an account though.
stv player is shitting the bed
Hurray I thought it was just me who was having trouble!
stv player is shitting the bed
This is why the BBC should have done it.
This is why the BBC should have done it.
Even when the stream works it's a piece of shit. The quality is awful.
The Spectator have a live blog which is useful to monitor whilst trying to get the stream to work: http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/2014/08/live-updates-salmond-vs-darling-television-debate/
This is why the BBC should have done it.
Or at the very least had some kind of radio coverage of it, I mean jesus it's not even being covered on Radio Scotland for crying out loud!
this is clearly that snake darling's doing
It's going to be on BBC Parliament tomorrow and then it'll be on iPlayer if the STV stream is really not working for you
You need an account though [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] Someone should just livestream the livestream to their Justin.tv account
Too late for that!
It's going to be on BBC Parliament tomorrow and then it'll be on iPlayer if the STV stream is really not working for you
Awww but then I've got to avoid spoilers till then!
Watching this debate finally allows me to understand how supporters of Nick Clegg felt in the European debate. Salmond is just peddling populist bullshit while Alistair Darling is making reasonable argument but is still losing.
Darling made an ass of himself when he refused to answer whether he agreed with Cameron's view that Scotland could be a successful nation.
It looks as if Darling won, thank god. [img_thumb]http://i.gyazo.com/4e85fbfbf3be0c0a7389c8facedb637d.png[/img_thumb]
I want to see Darling finally combat all the Nationalistic drivel which Salmond spouts.
Maybe I'm missing something here but I don't see how this post holds any water when the No camp has vehement supporters like the UKIP, Orange Order, BNP, edl, etc Please explain this to me because I am legitimately perplexed by the standards you use to define which side is nationalistic and which one isn't
Because the Yes campaign is literally run by the Scottish National party, and even then just because the No campaign is supported by British Nationalists doesn't mean that the No campaign supports British Nationalism.
"SNP is a nationalist party because they have national in their name" is circular reasoning, you used the term "nationalist" in a pejorative and derisive manner to support your debate stance, but you have yet to establish what those negative qualities are, nor have you established how better together is not equally nationalist If you want to argue actual debating points about what particular aspects you don't like, more power you you, that's what rational discourse is. However, in a debate that is comprised almost entire of British Nationalists (people who want a civic British nation) arguing against Scottish nationalists (people who want a civic Scottish nation), I fail to see how labelled something as "nationalist" really works as as a debating stance in that context tl:dr: The Pot is calling the Kettle black
