Dell has a "built-to customer standards" where you can purchase a computer with standard parts, or you can customize it on the website, and will be built to order. This is a cool idea, but I would like to know some feedback on this before I spend 1000$. Do you guys know any experience/ of any one with experience of this service, and is it worth anything?

They are overpriced. You could build your own for cheaper.
Not great, building your own would be better but this is fine if that's the kind of thing you want.
You should build your own from www.newegg.com

It depends on what you get, and if you have coupons to save (and DPA [Dell Preferred Account]).
Also if you're spending a 1000, look into Core i7 then.
Use these kinds of websites to design a computer you want, then write down all the parts, and order it from Newegg.

Thanks, that sounds like a cool idea.
There are other sites besides newegg. They usually are the cheapest but don't forget to shop around.

I think you mean i5.
and yeah if you give any kind of damn about getting the most out of your money spent a few hours looking into PC Building guides and build your own. Here's a decent video guide

There are Core i7 systems you can get or build under 1000USD.
and explain why you'd go i7 when i5 has the same/slightly better performance for much less.
