“The Internet industry is encouraged that the TPP recognizes the Internet as an essential American export, and supports the agreement’s passage. Historically, pro-Internet policies have been absent from trade agreements, which is why the TPP is an important step forward for the Internet sector that accounts for 6 percent of the GDP and nearly 3 million American jobs.

“The TPP requires countries to allow the transfer of information across borders and prohibits requirements to use inefficient, localized computing facilities. The TPP also acknowledges the benefits of the full scope of copyright law – requiring countries to adopt innovation-critical limitations and exceptions as well as safe harbors that protect the basic functionality of the Internet, social media, and online platforms. For too long, U.S. trade agreements have failed to reflect the balance of U.S. copyright law under which individual creators, right holders, Internet platforms and users have all benefitted. The TPP is a move in the right direction. Finally, the TPP promotes a more inclusive trade economy by supporting the ability of small businesses to use the Internet to serve customers and users in key markets.

I expect the rest to disavow too. Trans-Pacific Partnership is a joke. Every person in the United States know it, and wants it dead, but somehow because only a few fatcats support it, we have to put up with it. Several of our industries will be undoubtedly screwed over by it, namely out automotive, firearm, and computer industries, but of course that's all fine! We should totally destroy our local economies in favor of globalism! Also, I cannot be the only one who finds it ironic that Reddit of all people is against censorship.
The Internet industry is encouraged that the TPP recognizes the Internet as an essential American export, and supports the agreement’s passage.
Bullshit, that's just a patriotic and sugar coated way of saying the entire world needs to follow American copyright laws.
Bullshit, that's just a patriotic and sugar coated way of saying the entire world needs to follow American copyright laws.
also isn't the modern internet not an american invention?
also isn't the modern internet not an american invention?
Even if it was, what does this have to do with anything.. like, at all? The US is the source of some creation of the internet but -not- the source of networking, and well, not even several parts of the more modern parts of the internet. Several nations took part in the invention of the internet that it is now.
I'm back from my job and it really seems that this was a paid endorsement that the heads did. The TPP will not go through congress, what we are seeing is a last ditch effort to make it pass.

As long as Donald Trump / Hillary Clinton / Bernie Sanders is frontrunner, it will not pass.
also isn't the modern internet not an american invention?
Yeah the most important innovation was how CERN created the first world wide web server and outlined the http/html standard. A lot of people like to attribute it to ARPANET but thats hardly the whole story or even close to being the most important aspect to the modern internet.
