A post on Xbox Wire explains that “if you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect.” Essentially Kinect will not be forced upon players, but it will have to be actively turned off.Next, it moved to calm concerns over privacy while Kinect is not active. “When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command – ‘Xbox On’” This feature can be turned off as well. “Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences,” said Microsoft.
"Yes, you can turn the system completely off," the Microsoft rep said. "This would use no power and turn everything off. We’ll share more details about how it all works later." I believe this powering off involves the aforementioned power button.
Posting this so people can see. Not sure why I'm still seeing people talking about Xbox One's Kinect still always on even after the DRM thing was gotten rid of.
*flip flop*
Maybe they realized they fucked up and are now back-peddling.
That's cool that they are even removing the "Xbox On" command when the console is in standby. I'll probably still use it though.
If it's not always on, how does it response to you're voice when you say "Xbox On"?

It's stated this feature can be turned off as well.

They just said you can disable it in the article. Read before you post.

Company doesn't do what you want? Rage. Company does do what you want? Rage.
At this point Microsoft could shoot themselves in the foot literally and some people would still be pissed.

Looks like these were announced well before even E3. No backpedal or flip flop here.

That's not the point at all.
The fact that the original decisions were even considered gives a picture that they don't have a clue what they're doing.
Their words at this point fade into thin air, because their credibility faded away like a fart in the desert after the reveal.
We'll see how this turns out in practice.

I did read, and I did see that part. But it's still on if you don't disable the Voice activation features.

But you can, and that's the point.

The funny thing is, Steam is now beta testing the good stuff that was promised for the Xbone pre-today but were cancelled.

It's the right of those two buttons. The left one ejects the disk. You can get a closer look here.

Why is everyone saying the damage has already been done when the consoles haven't even released yet. First off everyone complained and wanted change, but now that they have change they ignore it.

I wont be pissed the time they literally come crawling on their knees and announce XBL is free for a year for everyone to compensate for their dickery.

The fact they even suggested such moronic thing in the first place.

I'm looking at the Sketchlab thing... is it below the the inputs and disc tray on the front?
Its all to see how much they could get away with, so what they do is either minimise the feature or remove it and then people are lead to believe they are actually listening, while it was always a click away from not having it on the console.
I'm looking at the Sketchlab thing... is it below the the inputs and disc tray on the front?
Its nested in the horizontal line around the console, each side on the front is a button by the looks of it.
Maybe they're listening to the consumers. Maybe they're lying. I'm having trouble figuring it out.
Maybe they realized they fucked up and are now back-peddling.
Only took three countries threatening to ban it before they even released to realize.

Oh damn, that is one tiny power button. If I had zoomed in more I may have noticed it stuck out a bit. Looks like one activates the disc tray and one has the power symbol. Thanks.
