So I'm 17, I've never been to art school, but I wanna start selling my older pieces. the problem is that I'm not sure how to price them, or present them yet.
I'm going to college for graphic design, so I mostly photo shop pieces. I'm going to try selling a few posters, and around 10 paintings on Friday and Saturday during art walks. The watercolors are all around 18x24 inchs and the paintings are all 20x24 inches. The paintings are on flat board canvas and the watercolors are on cold press watercolor paper. I haven't framed any of them. Some of the pieces include:

Some of them are very good, but in the first and third your anatomy is way off. Think about fixing that before trying to sell your work.
The last one is awesome
you sir, are quite talented i would buy the dog one but i couldnt meet your price most likely
Some of them are very good, but in the first and third your anatomy is way off. Think about fixing that before trying to sell your work.
I don't think it matters when they are this mind fuckish.
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
They own as well.
The last one is awesome
Thanks man. What would you pay for it?
And I have one offer for the tree painting, for $100. Is it worth it?
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
Also I have these paintings that will be there (If you guys think they are good)
p.s. thanks for criticism

I don't really see any other way of saying this without being a massive tool. so I apologize ahead if anything's harsh.
Selling art-work is a hard thing to talk about especially since there's a small, and very diverse crowd that are willing to buy art especially in this day and age. And I would just like to first begin by saying that Walt Disney used to sell his cartoon-y pieces for a little less than a dime.
While there is the possibility of you getting lucky as duck finding someone who will buy your work for anything over 70 dollars, it doesn't look quality enough to price anything over that. The last two pieces of your original post have the capacity to be priced over 70 dollars, but the other pieces have a lot of discrepancies in them that probably won't find you a host that will put over anything other than maybe 10 dollars.
If I were you, I would start pricing small, unless you can produce quality pieces that involve lots of detail, and design elements that are attractive.
Things that influence the buyer's mind:
-Do I like how it looks?
-How much time did it take to make this ?
-Is it hand made or just a print?
-Can I do this?
-What does it mean to the artist? What does it mean to me?
-Where would I put this in my house?
-etc. etc.
To give you an idea of the market
I was able to sell these pieces for the corresponding prices:
http://francoillus.tumblr.com/photo/1280/4330666930/1/tumblr_lj3y8krCJc1qg4tzx
Seventy Dollars
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/198237_10150166780342498_579842497_8205804_6862823_n.jpg
This, is a digital work, add that to it's amount of detail and I could scrap a measly 50 dollars.
http://francoillus.tumblr.com/photo/1280/4433551521/1/tumblr_ljbegegbyM1qg4tzx
This went for 100 dollars because it was hand-made and an original copy.
As you can see, it's extremely varied, even with 'good' looking work.
tl;dr I wouldn't go past 20 for the first few and 30 for the last two.
advice for selling.
Matte or frame your pieces to achieve presentability.
Before you start selling, ask around and see how much your friends would pay for these. chances are you can take their prices, minus ten dollars, and you'd get a generic price.
No offense, but if you could get $70 for the first one and 50 for the second one, the OP could easily get over 30 or even 40 for the last two and the two he most recently posted.... I will commend you on the last painting you posted though. That one is quite good.
I feel like I could get more than $20 from anyone.
People also don't care how much time you put into it, they only care about how it looks and how it will look in their house. Thanks for the criticism, but I think I can do a little better. especially if you sold that graphic design for $70 and the other for $50. The painting was good, but I can't get over the feeling that I've seen the same exact thing done before.
I know my style might be out there, but it gets the attention of college kids, and it's creative. Which means A. not a lot of money B. they like t shirts and posters
Some of my poster/other graphic works I might try to sell: (But with a black border)

Actually you probably wont get much more.
People don't care how much work you put into them, but an art piece shows whether a mistake was intentional or not.
And the wrong proportions you do, just don't have the look and feel of being distorted correctly. It's just not pleasant to the eye and that dictates the price as well.
The work you've done without human-ish figures in them are much better.
And don't ask what we'd price it, if you're just going to disagree, then there's really no point.
You will see for yourself in the end, but maybe the question you'll ask next time will be: what can I do to improve (thus making your art more valuable).
I know they are disproportional, and I've decided not to sell those two paintings, but the rest look fine. I already stated that people don't care how much work you put into them. Lastly, I've given up. I wanted a basic answer cause I've never sold art or even seen art prices. I just wanted an answer from someone who knows what they are talking about, and I can't seem to find it here.
See that's good, cause when you don't put the bad art next to the good it makes a diffrent impression.
If it helps I'll go look at the pictures some more and just write what the top price I would pay if I were buying these.

This one doesn't appeal to me, so I'm not going to put a price on it.

Going on to the next post...
Keep in mind I'm willing to pay maybe more than a sensible person for something I like, depending on how much I like it.

Painted 60€, print 10€.

If the bong man had the right proportions, or if he were much more caricaturised and the colors were gentler and this were a painting on canvas, I would buy it for a friend: 30€ It definitely has an appeal because of the grass, it's unfortunate that it's executed in quite this way.

This one is really good, I love the colors and the picture makes some sence in terms of color and composition. If this is on canvas I'd pay 180-185€ for it. If it's a print then maybe 30€.
This one just doesn't work for me as a print.

I'm not so keen on the other ones, but this one is fantastic. I couldn't honestly say how much someone would pay for it, but I'd expect it to be quite a reasonable price. You should do a series of stuff like this. I always imagine series' to seem more appealing, because then you can really understand the artistic process and feel more convinced by the direction of the pieces.
[editline]3rd June 2011[/editline]
What this one has that the other ones don't is depth. The others don't really jump out at you nearly as much because they're comparatively so flat.
Thanks for the constructive criticism Nyaa and Robbobin. I'll put out the works that you guys liked best. The one with the eyes isn't on canvas, it's just a poster, but could you explain why it makes sense artistically? I've never been to art school. Also, you priced it in euros. Should I convert it to dollars? the conversion rate is roughly 1.5 dollars for every euro.
I started another painting in the style of the squid painting. The squid is my most recent painting. I've been working in this style for a few weeks and have made 3 like this, working on the fourth. The style is with spray paint and acrylic on canvas, and cut out watercolor carefully pasted to the canvas. It's the style I used for the squid and the dog. All of my pictures are on canvas besides the last post. The last post is posters and graphic design.
The squid piece is definetely the best work. Along with the morphed eyes thing. I wish i had the creativity to do stuff like this. I have skills with a lot of programs including max and Photoshop and can recreate almost anything but when i have to come up with something i am empty.

now this I'd pay a lot of money for

Coming up with art is difficult work. Especially when you bond to it, and you can't see the obvious problems most people can. That's why I use the mirror trick. If you hold it up in a mirror, and it looks shitty, then it looks shitty to people you don't know.
I'm selling T-shirt designs to a local company called sugar skull. got some mock ups.

The boss is awesome, he saw me doodling on receipts whilst working at the tills in Whsmiths and asked if i wanted a job :)
The shirts i used for display were fucking wank.
also every ones art here is fucking amazing
dude, if someone wants to by your stuff for 100$, and you aren't a pro, you should go for it.
Yes you should convert to dollars :)
About the eyes:
It's balanced, not too much shit on either side of the picture. The colors go together well and don't hurt the eyes. Too bad it's a poster, because I'd love it in watercolor and pencil.
Spray paintings sell really well over here (Just saying since you mentioned it was sprayed).
Maybe you should try selling your work on an international website for these kind of things.
I don't know much about pricing art but i think your works looks great especial the last one with the squid, I think if you continue to do this you could make some big cash.
I'll take 10 of each

Not trying to offend, but I doubt anyone would buy that shirt.
profanities on shirts severely limit any design's potential
